Recommended Level
Level 30
Level 30is the level we recommend you be when facing Gildias, as ithas a large health pool and can deal tons of damage. This willensure that you can deal adequate damageto the Guardian of the Icy Depthand take some of what it dishes out, allowing you to focus on the fight instead of worrying about dying in two hits.
Of course, having better equipment will also boost those Statsquite well also, which is why we strongly urge you to drop the Gold on theBanded Set.It’s just that good. If you areonly Level 28, we strongly recommend farming until you’re Level 30,as every little bit will help in this encounter!

How To Defeat Gildias, Guardian Of The Icy Depths In Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana
This is abizarre encounterin Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, as you will primarily beforced to use your newly obtained Terra Braceletto deal any sort of damage to Gildias, which kindadevolves into you spamming it in the first halfof the fight, then having to lock in for the remainder of it, as that’s when things get hairy.
Make no mistake,Gildias is a very challenging opponent, but once youlearn the trick to its gimmicks, you will almost be drunk with power, constantly exploiting it until you suddenly can’tdo it nearly as much or as frequently. This encounter is pretty sick from start to finish, so it’s a treat to experience, especially for the first time!

Gildias - Icy Gust
When theencounter begins,Gildiasalmost always performshisIcy Gustattack, pushing Adol toward the bottomof the screen whilesimultaneously launching large chunks of iceat him. It can bedifficult to see the faint chunks of icedue to the effects on the screen, but they should become clearer as they get closer.
You cantry dodging them by moving to the left or right,or you canuse your Terra Bracelet to smash through them, taking no damage if you time it right. Both methods will work, but we prefer using the Terra Bracelet as it poses the least risk!

Adol - Terra Bracelet Shenanigans
Once your screen returns to normal, run up to Gildias, charge your Terra Bracelet, and let it rip, slamming yourself into the towering dragon with great force, causing it to becomestaggered.Congratulations, you figured out theprimary gimmickof this encounter and can nowabuse it relentlessly.
Staggering Gildias allows you torun up to its head and unleash a barrage of attackson it, dealing substantial damage. If you are close to Gildas, always use your Terra Bracelet.Juststart spamming it,as only a few actions in the early goings will force you to respect them.
Even then, awell-timed and placed Terra Bracelet attack will make you immune to most incoming attacksof Gildias', so you don’t have to worry about getting interrupted or badly injured in the early going of this fight. It’s a very potent weapon that will carry you through this encounter!
Gildias - Icy Stomp
Acommonly used attackof Gildas' is itsIcy Stomp, having itslam its feet on the grounda few times, causinglarge shards of icetotravel across the groundin all sorts of directions. While there will be many shards of ice on the arena, there will be many gaps, allowing you torun up close to Gildasand use yourTerra Bracelet!
Gildias - Tail Slam
Following that is Gildias’Tail Slam, which has itviolently slam its tail on the groundwith lots of force, creating alarge shockwavethatcovers the area in shards of ice. When you seeGildias turn its backto you, tryrunning to the left or righttoget beside them, then unleash your Terra Bracelet.
If youhappen to get caught within the area of effect,awell-timed Terra Braceletcharge will send you through the shards of ice, negating all damage and staggeringGildias. But that will besubstantially more challengingto pull off, so try getting outside the shockwave!
Gildias - Ice Breath
One of Gildias' mostunderused attacksis itsIce Breath, whichblows a steady stream of ice onto the grounddirectly beneath it,covering the area in ice and shards of ice.If you’reclose to Gildiaswhen it begins this attack, you know what to do, as you are inperfect rangeto let theTerra Braceletdo its job.
However, if you arefar away, you must be cautious, asGildias will immediately go into its next action, which can be tricky to avoid on top of this.Be patientif you are further away, anduse your Terra Bracelet to break the shards of icebefore focusing on Gildias!
Gildias - Flying Ice Barrage
Dropping Gildias' health down past the halfway pointwill introduce a new move into the mix, having it perform itsFlying Ice Barrage, where itflies high into the air and off your screenbeforedropping large shards of iceonto the arena below, dealingsubstantial damageif it hits you.
Fortunately, youcan see where the shards of ice will landthanks to alarge area of effect circle that appears on the ground, allowing you to avoid them entirely. Don’t get careless here, andalways position yourself near another open partof the arena, as it will drop A LOT of shards!
Adol - Terra Bracelet And Double Boost
Let Gildias land, then quicklyrun upto it and let yourTerra Braceletrip, then activate yourDouble Boostto replenish some of your HP and carve away a large chunk of its health. You want todo this as soon as it lands,as Gildias has atendency to spam its Flying Ice Barrage, and you cannot hit it during the entirety of the attack!
Gildias - Flying Biting Grab
When youhave Gildias on the ropes, and you think you’ve seen all it is capable of, it will pull out itsFlying Biting Grab, which isits secret weapon. This attack isdownright evil and incredibly deceptive.Like the previous attack, Gildias willfly upward and off your screen, making you think it will begin dropping shards of ice onto the arena again.
But that’s where you’re wrong;whenever its health is this low(Around 600 HP remaining), Gildias willswoop in from the side of the arenain an attempt tobite and grab Adol.If it successfully lands this attack, it willpick Adol up and fly up the cave with him, ultimatelydropping him down a very long shaftfilled with sharp helictites.
You mustmove to the left or right to evadethem, but you arefalling so fast that it is nearly impossible. Each time you hit one of the sharp rocks, you willtake TONS of damage. If you don’t have a lot of health, you are likely dead here.So avoid this at all costs.
Themoment you have Gildias' health at critical levels, and yousee it leavethe screen,Double Jump either toward the screen or awayfrom it as he swoops into evade the attack entirely. When it lands, hit it with yourTerra Braceletand finish it off!
