Who doesn’t love a new planetary material in theirDestiny 2activities? Well, with Episode: Heresy, we get another one. Called Metastasized Essentia, it’s your key to even more loot in an Episode where it’s already practically falling from the sky. Gathering this Essentia is pretty straightforward, but access is limited to a scarce few sources, and getting your rewards is a bit clunky.
Thankfully, there are some simple things you’re able to do to make farming and using Metastasized Essentia more comfortable and consistent. We’ll discuss all those methods today.
How To Find Metastasized Essentia
You’ll only findMetastasized Essentiaon theDreadnaughtas part ofThe Netheractivity. It onlyexists thereand as a rewardfor increasing yourShaping Slab reputation. It is, however, fairlyplentifulonOryx’s flagship.
Each unit of theEssentiais alarge, white, spiny spherethat lightly glows wherever it grows. You’ll find Metastasized Essentia mainly in the following places:
In short, youwon’tfindmuchEssentiain each area’smain sectionsnear the Eversion or bossencounters. You mightfindthem thereoccasionally, but you’ll havebetter luck looking at the fringesof each zone. Thebest thingyou can do tofind more Metastasized Essentiais tousetheCombo and Wombo DetectorGhost mods.
Using either modwill place a trianglesymbol on your HUDwhenever you’re within a certain distance of an Essentia. The Combo mod is 40 meters; the Wombo mod is 50 meters.
Combo and Wombo Ghost mods will also mark randomly spawned chests on your HUD, but they’re clearly marked with a chest symbol.
You canextend this rangefurther by equipping a weaponwith a zoomed sightlike aSniper Rifleor other longer-range weapon.Aimingdown your sights canshowwhere you canfind more Essentiaat agreater distance.
One final note aboutGhost mods: theHUD elementswillremainfor severalminutes afteryou’vecollectedeither achest or Essentia.Take stockof where you’vealready beento ensure youdon’t waste time huntingfor something that isn’t there.
How To Use Metastasized Essentia
When you first collect Metastasized Essentiaon the Dreadnaught, you’ll seeit has the “Fleeting” descriptor. ToleaveThe Netherwith your Essentia, you need tocomplete at least one boss encounterandopenthe rewardchest.
Doing so will remove the “Fleeting” descriptor and allow you to leave the Nether with your Essentia to spend it. If you leave the activity by any means — a team wipe, a random disconnect, or by exiting before completing a boss encounter — you’ll lose any Fleeting Metastasized Essentia you’re carrying.
You don’t need to beatallthree bossesin the entire Nether activity to get out with your Essentia, aseach chest you open removes the Fleetingdescriptor from any Essentia you found in that zone.
Once you haveat least ten Metastasized Essentiain your inventory, return toEris’s flatin the Last City. You’ll find aTaken Altar in a cornerdirectlyacrossfrom theShaping Slab.
Depositing ten Essentia immediately awards:
Youneeda stack often Metastasized Essentiato dunk at theTaken Altar.you’re able to’t bankfewerthan that tobuildup toten,nor can you use morethan ten at a time. It’s asingle stack of tenforevery deposit, every time. Thisrestrictionis likely in place toavoid loot overload, so keep it in mind.
