While every God inSmite 2works differently from one another, there are many Gods who share some overlapping strengths, weaknesses, and mechanics. Finding a God that has something entirely and utterly unique to them is a bit rare, even if every God does have their own distinct flavor.

Medusa is the rare God that has something that no other God has, and that’s an unprecedented movement ability. This movement ability gives her the chance to accomplish things possible for no other God, and for that reason, she has some pretty specific strengths, without suffering any specific weaknesses along the way.

Medusa stands on a stone pedestal in Smite 2.

Smite 2 is currently in Early Access, meaning any of the information below could change dramatically as the game develops.

How To Play Medusa In Smite 2

Medusagenerally fills eitherthe Middleorthe Carry rolein Smite 2. The Middle role would see her in the middle lane for much of the match, withlimited support from allies; usually a Jungler hopping in from time to time, when the opportunity presents itself.

Inthe Carry role, Medusa will usually be in theleft lanewith the Support character, whose job it will be to make things as easy as possible for theCarry to deal untold damage.

In either of these roles, Medusa is going to be capable of quite a lot of damage. But in the Middle, she’ll be focused on owning that lane as best as possible, whereas in the Carry, she’ll be focused on building herself into a damaging machine for the late game.

Passive Ability: Sidewinder

Medusa’s passive ability,Sidewinder, is where her very specific strength comes in. Sidewinderremoves any movement penalty she would sufferwhenmoving to the sideandremoves halfof themovement penaltyshe would sufferwhen backpedaling.

When moving in any direction other than forward, other Gods move considerably slower than they otherwise would.

How To Get The Most Out Of Sidewinder

Sidewinderaffords Medusa opportunitiesshe wouldnot otherwise have, andallows her to be more aggressivethan many other characters can. This is true ofboth the Carryandthe Middle roles, and we’ll talk about both separately.

Ability: Viper Shot

Medusa’sViper Shotincreases her attack speedby a considerable amount, as well as enables hernext four Basic Attackstodeal damage over time (DoT).

Every shot on an enemy God with this ability reduces the cooldown of it by half a second. This means that if all four shots hit an enemy God, the cooldown will be reduced by two seconds.

Ability: Acid Spray

Acid Spraydeals damageto an enemy and thensprays acid out in a cone behind that enemy. Any enemy hit with this ability is dealt damage and will have theirhealing received reduced by 40 percentfor the nextfive seconds.

Acid Spray will also detonate any statues that Medusa has created with her ultimate ability, Petrify. We’ll get into the importance of that down below.

How To Use Acid Spray

Acid Spraycan beusefulin avariety of situations; it won’t be as regularly beneficial as Viper Shot, but that’s a high bar.

Characters in the middle lane can also occasionally self-heal, though it’s with a bit less regularity. Still, it’s a far from useless ability in that role.

Ability: Lacerate

Medusa’sLacerateabilitydashes her forward; she passes through any minions she comes into contact with while doing this, and all enemies she passes through are dealt damage.

Hitting an enemy God with this ability will stop Medusa from moving forward, but it will also temporarily root the God she damages in place.

Ultimate Ability: Petrify

Medusa’s ultimate ability,Petrify, removes the mask that she wears. Her gaze thendamagesandstuns enemiesthatare looking at her, anddamagesandslowsenemies that are not.

Ifan enemy God is killedby the significant damage this ability deals, they’re turned into a statue. When astatueisdestroyed,Medusa gainsbotha temporaryandpermanent increasein herStrengthandIntelligence, thetemporarybuffbeingten percent, while thepermanent buffisfive points each.

Medusa uses her Lacerate ability to slither through a group of enemy minions in Smite 2.

Destroying a stature also decreases the cooldown of Lacerate by five seconds.

When To Use Petrify

Because of thepermanent stat gainfeature of this ability, Petrify isbest used as a finisher against enemy Gods.

Acombination of abilitiesthat works particularly well goes fromLacerate>Petrify. Lacerateroots an enemy Godin place, andimmediately hitting themwithPetrifyensures theycannot escape Medusa’s gaze. That leaves you free todestroy their statueimmediately after, gaining that permanent buff.

Getting kills against enemy Gods with Petrify as often as possible is paramount with Medusa. The more often she does this, the more powerful she’s going to become, essentially leveling her separately from her overall level. This can create a force-of-nature Medusa by the end of a match.
