Saving Fior mes Iverno is one of the biggest ways you can change the course of the main narrative inAvowed, and doing so also unlocks the secret Achievement Fior Extinguisher. It’s a name so great you wonder if they came up with the name first and the idea second.

It’snot that difficulta task, but the game does not tell you how to do it at all. In fact, you may not even realise the city is at risk until you emerge from one quest to see the city on fire. If you have reached this pointyou are too late. Despite the Achievement’s name, you cannot extinguish the fire, only stop it from happening. To do this, there’s a specific side quest.

Which Side Quest Helps You Save Fior Mes Inverno?

In Emerald Stair, you will get the side questSteel Resolvefromfreeing Ranger Verano(this directs you to Report toRanger Captain Aciernoat theRanger Tower) or heading straight to the Ranger Tower yourself. From here, you’ll be send toRanger Casagrada by the docksandRanger Dorso by the entrance to Fior itself.

It is possible to skip all of this quest and rush to the ending, described in the sectionFinding The Steel Garotte At The Waterfall. But to do it step by step, follow along here.

You canignore Casagrada as she is innocent. Instead, head toDorso. She will eventuallysend you to the Ogre’s Cave in the far north west of the map, by the Grim Wetlands.

How To Reach The Ogre’s Cave

Heading through the Grim Wetlands, passage to the Ogre’s Cave isblocked by a door. This is opened via activing switches, meaning you needGiatta, Shock spells, or Lily Seeds to continue. One of these switches isto the right of the door behind a wooden barrier, and the other isdirectly behind you as you face the door, just across a small gap.

From here, continue through the door, scrambling up the ledges and along the rocky path. Inside, fight Ulraskthenloot the bodiesto find directions to aRoot Strangled Tree.Head to the map marker to the west of Fior mes Iverno (or west of the Wildwoods), and here the wizened old tree with be much larger and very obvious in the forest. Search for thenote in the tree’s roots, then head to the meeting point at theriver by the Rootbound Godless Ruins. This will beDorso, who was the traitor all along.

To save Fior mes Iverno, you need to get the information out of her about the Steel Garotte hideout. Of course, as we explained, this can beskipped and you can head there directly, especially as it’s close. Regardless, either interrogate her untl she reveals the location, or fight her… or interrogate her untl she reveals the locationthenfight her. She does have anExceptional Daggerto claim if you kill her and loot her body.

Finding The Steel Garotte At The Waterfall

Whether by getting the instructions from us or Dorso, once you get to the waterfall you will find the Steel Garotte. Go to theRootbound Godless RuinsbyBelderreno’s Lairand head upstream to the waterfall. On the right, there is a cave passage that leads to a Steel Garotte hideout.

Inside, they will attempt to strike a deal or get you to leave, but to save Fior mes Iverno you need tostand and fight. Kill the first tw guards, thenloot their bodies for the key. Use this key to continue into the hideout, where you willfind more of the Steel Garotte. Make sure you clearthe first room, thebarred room(accessed via the cavern to the right of the door), and thefew guards up the far cave path, andloot the final Steel Garrote key from the guards.

You then need toRanger Captain Acierno, which completes Steel Resolve if you folllowed every step. If you just did the waterfall directly, this step is not needed.

How To Unlock Fior Extinguisher

Simply doing this quest/clearing the hideout will save the city, but the Achievement won’t pop yet. After remvoing the threat of the Steel Garotte in Emerald Stair, youstill have to complete the main quest Ancient Soil. When you finish this quest, you will see that many in Fior mes Inverno still died fighting off traitors, but the city remains standing. It’s at this point that the Achievement will finally unlock.
