Monster Hunter Wildstakes a new approach to how the series does hunts. While they can still be accepted from your Handler from a menu and you set out from camp, you’re able to also dynamically start a hunt against any monster you come across in the world without ever having to go through a menu.
For the length of the story, these hunts will almost always be against just a single monster, which might get easy after a while. That’s where Great Hunts come in. They’re not unlocked as part of the story, however, with you needing to go out of your way to unlock these more challenging hunts. Let’s see how.
What Are Great Hunts?
When you take on a hunt in the game, it will almost always be for just a single monster. These are regular hunts. Great Hunts are just a fancy way of saying ofa hunt that involves you taking on two monstersas part of a single hunt. That doesn’t mean the two monsters will always be roaming the map together, just that you need to defeat both of them to complete the hunt.
These typically come with aslightly harsher timeframe in which you can complete them, and the same number of times hunters can faint. The rewards received from these hunts are also dramatically increased, from bonus materials to relics for crafting Artian weapons. When possible, you should always be doing Great Hunts for the extra rewards.
How To Unlock Great Hunts
Great Hunts cannot be unlocked until you have completed the Low Rank story andstarted into High Rank. At this point, it becomes linked to side quests in each region. A side quest must be completed in each region for the system to unlock, rather than unlocking in all of them at once. This quest is different in each region, but will involve hunting two monsters at the same time.

Once these quests have been completed,Great Hunts will unlock in each region. These can be seen in the environment overview tab of the map, and will also be sent to you as a notification when they appear. Typically, only a single Great Hunt will appear in a region at a time, though multiple can occur.
