Finding meaningful rewards to give to your players is one of the most challenging aspects of running any long-standingDungeons & Dragonscampaign. After a while, there’s only so much random gold and treasure you can offer the party before the reward of treasure loses all meaning.

That’s why supernatural gifts can prove to be a highly meaningful reward to give to either individual players or the party as a whole. These unique adventure rewards are fun and impactful, and can help keep your players engaged in completing missions. Here’s how to use supernatural gifts in your Dungeons & Dragons campaign.

Blessing

Typically, blessings mimic the effects of powerful magic items, and species features, or provide stat increases.

Use blessings when divine magic users complete tasks for their deity, patron, or other divine power.

Or, you’re able to use blessings ahead of dangerous quests, in which a player’s deity might imbue them with some of their power.

Typically, charms mimic the effects of potions or spells, or other minor magical effects.

Use charms when players interact with powerful magic NPCs, discover untold arcane secrets, or encounter mythic creatures of note.

More often than not, charms are temporary, as opposed to blessings which are more permanent.

With rare exceptions, players should not be benefiting from multiple charms or blessings at the same time, and should never be able to stack these effects.
