You’ll find villages, temples, and even colossal ships that’ve crashed into the rocks floating in your world’s sky, and in these places, you’ll also find inspiration.
With your sketchbook handy, you’ll be able to sketch up ideas for new furniture to build back on your home island as you draw sketches of the different furniture you find in the ruins of Aloft. See something on an island you like? Draw it and then go craft it at home!

Sketch New Furniture Designs As You Explore
It’s not long into playing Aloft- it’s during the Forgotten Legacy quest when you’re first learning aboutcleansing islands of their corruption- that you come across what looks like the ruins of someone’s home. By default, you’ll know how to make a few standard items in your crafting menu to get you started as you establish a home planet - simple wooden flooring and walls that allow you to begindesigning and customizing your home islandsto feel more like, well, a home.
But if you’ve been noticing all the ruins around you as you keep exploring, we hope you’vefound a sketchbook in the chests and basketsstrewn about, since you can then use it todraw furniture you seein the wild while you’re exploring new islands. While not everything is able to be replicated in this way, byusing your sketchbook and one piece of paper, you can figure out how to make tons of different crafting pieces to make your house feel more homey.

But don’t forget about keeping a sharp eye out foradditional building structuresthat you can then use to construct a real home for yourself on your home island, a more elaborate ship, or whatever your heart desires! Not only can you findnew wooden structureslike curved walls and circular platforms, but you’ll notice a wide variety ofstone structural pieceswhen you stumble across the ruins of temples or castles.
Be sure to highlight different shapes of pieces, things likewalls, flooring, fences, and door frames, which can be placed in just about any shape you’d like. Most of the wooden building materials are available in stone variants as well, and you’ll find ample shapes of turf roof to top everything off with a vibrant green hue.
After sketching a new piece of furniture, it’ll be added to your construction menu immediately, which means you’ll have access to that recipe from then on in this save!
