It’s now been over four years sinceArk 2was revealed at The Game Awards, andVin Diesel was shockingly shown off as the game’s protagonist. Following the reveal, the gamereceived a 2023 release date, wassubsequently delayed, and then went radio silent.
While there are fears that the game is set to fizzle out and never see the light of day, Studio Wildcard has given it a nod in a reveal for anArk: Survival Ascendedexpansion, confirming it is still coming. Unfortunately, however, the news seems to end all hope that the title will be released at any point this year.
Yesterday, Studio WildcardannouncedArk: Lost Colony, the first standalone expansion for Ark: Survival Ascended.
The DLC will feature “cinematic anime sequences” starring Michelle Yeoh, that have been developed by MAPPA (Attack On Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man). Studio Wildcard promises that the “epic new story of ARK Lost Colony bridges the gap from ARK Extinction to ARK Genesis and into the world of ARK 2,” which is exciting news for fans of the series.
The expansion will also feature a new location, plus the ability to “unlock powerful ‘Lost’ character ability trees, befriend exotic tames, craft ‘Cursed’ tiers of gear, and master advanced new building systems!”
It’s not all good news, though.
The Lost Colony expansion will be available for pre-order in June, launching later this year in November. Given that the expansion leads directly into Ark 2, it seems highly unlikely that both will be released this year.
Players will need time to complete Ark: Survival Ascended Lost Colony before jumping into the second game, if the links are that important, so Studio Wildcard will likely want to give players time to finish the DLC, before giving them the new title.
Of course, this is all speculation, and Lost Colony could be released in early November before Ark 2 drops at some point in December, but it seems highly unlikely that the studio would place two releases so close to each other right at the end of the year.
