Summary

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2has been making headlines for the past week or so, not because its release is now right around the corner, but because a certain section of its potential fanbaseis upset about some of its content. That led to claims of canceled pre-orders and plummeting sales, but Kingdom Come writer Daniel Vávra has responded and claimed that’s simply not true.

Vávra focused on one “grifter” in particular who told their followers on YouTube that rumors Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 might be banned in Saudi Arabia due to it possibly including a same-sex romance. The writer noted those claims are false, revealing the sales/returns ratio of the sequel’s pre-orders are the same as they were before all this unnecessary controversy began.

As for why Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 isn’t as high on the Steam charts as it was a week or two ago, Vávra points to nine popular games getting discounts and highlightsMonster Hunter: Wildspre-orders have dropped down the charts too. No such drama for the highly-anticipatedCapcomgame and it seems unlikely Vávra’s latest response will stop people who have a problem with Warhorse’s upcoming game from continuing to complain.

Despite What You Might Have Heard

In other responses to the backlash against his game, Vávra has confirmed none of the scenes in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are unskippable, and that same-sex romances were a part of the original game too. Some also have a problem with there being a black character in the game, to which Vávra has responded that the city in which that character was shown is a far more diverse place than the villages that provided the backdrop in the first game.

Vávra was criticized for a lack of diversity in the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance. He has even tended to side with the types of gamers who lobby against games that include same-sex relationships and non-white characters, making it somewhat ironic that small but vocal corner of the community is now coming after a game he helped create.

As recently as December Vávra came under fire for takinga very thinly-veiled shot at Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a recent example of a game the same crowd coming after Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 rooted against for being “woke”. Vávra compared Kingdom Come’s Steam numbers to The Veilguard’s, neglecting to mention the former had experienced a boost due to its price being cut by 80 percent.
