Summary
Kingdom Heartsis celebrating its 23rd anniversary tomorrow, and fans are hopeful that we’ll get some kind of announcement forKingdom Hearts 4or evenMissing Linkto celebrate.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before -it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything concrete about Kingdom Hearts. That statement already felt true when it had just been a year sinceSquarehad mentioned Kingdom Hearts 4 or Missing Link, but we’re now well beyond 1,000 days since a proper update on the next mainline game.
While fans arealwayshopeful (and then inevitably disappointed) that Kingdom Hearts is going to show upat some point and finally give us an update on what’s to come, there’s a more concrete reason to believe this time around. That’s because the series finally turns 23 tomorrow, and that makes it the perfect time for a reveal.
Kingdom Hearts Will Surely Get News For Its Anniversary… Right?
Tomorrow, March 28, marks the 23rd anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, which originally began with the first entry all the way back in 2002. Yep, it’s really been that long since we stepped into Sora’s hideously oversized shoes for the first time. With that milestone in mind, there’s renewed hope for some announcements.
Take Twitter user aitaikimochi, for example, who pointed out that the series is turning 23 tomorrow, just in time for when the Nintendo Direct is going to take place in Japan. While the chances are slim for a Kingdom Hearts announcement at the Direct, the anniversary lining up does make it a bit more possible, especially with hopes that Missing Link becomes more than a mobile game.
It’s worth noting that Square has celebrated Kingdom Hearts anniversaries recently, such as giving us a message from Tetsuya Nomura when Birth by Sleep recently turned 15.
Outside of the Direct, fans are justhopeful that the anniversary means we’ll get an update on the series after so long. Considering the original announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4 took place on the 20th anniversary (jesus christ), it does track that we’d get any kind of update. If not, well then we’ll at least all be able to suffer together. For now, though, keep a Gazing Eye out for tomorrow.
