Summary
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaiimight be Goro Majima’s first solo game, but it also provides some big updates on some characters who are very important to the series.
Even though it really hasn’t been that long since we got the last major release in the Like a Dragon series withlast year’s excellent Infinite Wealth, that hasn’t stoppedRGG Studiosfrom already putting out another game. This one’s special, though, as itfocuses entirely on everyone’s favourite character, Goro Majima, who finally has his own solo adventure.

Major spoilers for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will follow. Don’t go further than here if you don’t want to know about the final few hours.
Although Majima’s game is clearly a bit tongue-in-cheek with its pirate theme, the former Tojo Clan vice chairman’s game does have a serious story hiding underneath its eyepatch. That story also has a few nods and references to the series' other main protagonists, including giving us an important and somewhat depressing update on Kiryu’s condition.

Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii Confirms Kiryu’s Status And Has A Cameo From Ichi
When Majima first starts out on his pirate adventure,he’s suffering from amnesia and has no idea who he really is or what he’s been up to. We find out towards the end of the game that he was actually searching for a treasure that’s said to be the elixir of life, which he was trying to find to cure Kiryu of his cancer.
Majima sadly doesn’t end up getting his hands on the cure, but the game ends with him and Saejima going to visit Kiryu in the hospital, lamenting the fact that he’s stuck in the condition he’s in while they get to keep living life. While it’s a shame that Kiryu doesn’t get a cure by the game’s end, it does at least confirm that he’s still alive, even if he’s still in the hospital.
Pirate Yakuza even ends with “To be continued”, suggesting there might be a bit more story to tell about how Kiryu’s getting on.
Kiryu isn’t the only protagonist to be mentioned in PirateYakuza, though, as Ichiban actually makes a cameo in the final hours as well. As Majima finishes his story, it’s revealed that he was actually telling it all to Ichi, who has rented out a studio and is filming the interview for whatever reason. It’s a bit random, but it’s good to see our boy.
