Summary
Mario Kartfans have been discussing which items they don’t want to see return inMario Kart 9, and it looks like the Blooper, Coins, and Piranha Plants are high up on the chopping block wishlist.
After nearly a whole year of teasingand constant reminders that 2024’s Directs wouldn’t mention the Switch’s successor,Nintendofinally did what we’d all been waiting for andofficially revealed the Switch 2 last month. As great as the magnetic joy-cons and sleek new design look, the main highlight of the announcement was a teaser for Mario Kart 9.
Even though we only got to see a very brief glimpse at the next Mario Kart, the footage showed enough to kickstart a ton of speculation and theory-crafting.Fans have already discussed MK9’s potential returning characters, number of racers, anda new gas mechanic, but they’ve finally moved on to what really counts - the items.
Mario Kart Fans Share The Items They Don’t Want To See In MK9
The all-important discussion on which items should be booted out of the lineup for Mario Kart 9 wasstarted by Redditor Crafty-Junket3609 over on the Mario Kart subreddit. Crafty-Junket3609 instantly set the tone for the thread by highlighting the infamously useless Blooper and disappointing Coins as two items that need to go.
While I was expecting the Blue Shell to quickly make an appearance in the thread,it seems that most Mario Kart fans hate the Blooper too, as one of the most upvoted comments comes from Redditor EddieJay5, who simply said, “I’m sick of the f**king blooper”. This sentiment was quickly shared by other fans, although some think the Blooper should become a playable character instead.
The Coins, which give you a minor speed boost if you collect enough of them, are also mentioned several times as a potential chopping block victim, which probably comes from skilled players who are sick of getting them in first place. A lot of fans alsodon’t want the Piranha Plant to make a comeback, as a lot of them think it’s another item with limited use.
Redditor CDan72 even suggested that thePiranha Plant gets replaced by the Mega Mushroom from Mario Kart Wii, which I’m totally on board for.
Some of the other notable items mentioned in the thread include theLightning Bolt, Boo, and even the overpowered Crazy 8. All three items get brought up a lot in the thread, suggesting that most Mario Kart players don’t get much use out of them. The surprisingly involved discussion mentions a few more items as well, but it’s easy to see themainones that fans want removed for the next game.
