Summary
For a franchise as long-running, iconic and inspiring asMega Manhas been, its sales numbers have been everything but that. In fact, the sales numbers have long been middling.Chalk it up to the large number of titles, orthe fact that some were produced in record-setting time, but Mega Man hasn’t always had the sales numbers to back up its decades-long legacy.
However, via new sales numbers distributed byCapcom, it appears that the Blue Bomber has some celebrating to do.As first spotted by Rockman Corner, a Mega Man fan website,Mega Man 11has been revealed to have topped two million units in worldwide sales, making it the single best-selling entry in the franchise.
The information comes via Capcom’s own Platinum Titles section, where it lists the sales figures for its titles. There,Mega Man 11 has risen to be the company’s 65th best-selling title, ahead of the original Legacy Collection (1.60), Mega Man 2 (1.51), X Legacy Collection (1.40), Battle Network 4 (1.35), X (1.16) and 3 (1.08).
Where Has The Blue Bomber Gone?
While the sales data for 2018’s is awfully encouraging, hardcore fans are constantly wondering when they’ll see Mega Man back in action. In 2023, Capcom said it wants to “take care in how we develop the series” moving forward. However, things have been quiet since.
With no new title on the horizon, the Blue Bomber has been largely relegated to cameo duty. For one reason or another, Mega Man was a playable character in Funko Fusion, the game based on the popular vinyl figures. There was also a Mega Man-themed collaboration inExoprimal, plusBattle Network costumes in last year’s Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered. Oh, andMega Man coffee. In other words, perhaps these updated sales numbers can give Capcom just the kick it needs to rescue Mega Man from cameo purgatory.
