Monster Hunter Wildsis making dozens of changes to one of Capcom’s most beloved franchises. Hitstopis being reworked, there are tons of new monsters,four weapons are undergoing some major adjustments, and the game is transitioning to an open-world formula.
Unfortunately, one thing that isn’t changing is the paywalled character customization. Confirmed last week,players will only be able to edit their character and Palico once for freebefore having to pay to change things. Naturally, this hasn’t gone down well with prospective players.
Future Monster Hunter Wilds Players Aren’t Happy With Paywalled Character Customization
Paywalled character customization is nothing new in the world ofMonster Hunter. All of the series' most recent titles,World,Iceborne, andRise, have featured Character Edit Tokens, so their addition in Wilds should come as no surprise. However, with the Monster Hunter franchise one of the only ones to pull this type of thing, fans were hoping things would be different this time around. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.
If a recentthreadon theMonster Huntersubreddit is representative, then it’s safe to say that the game’s future audience is not happy with things.
Titled “Probably no one cares, but Capcom, for the love of Fatalis, please stop doing this particularly s***tty MTX already,” the thread garnered almost 6,000 upvotes and over 1,000 comments within its first 24 hours.
Replying in the thread, user FDR-Enjoyersaid, “100% agree. The only reason they charge money for it is because they know people are going to want to edit their character but aren’t going to want to wipe 40 hours of playtime to do so.”

Another user, who claimed they were shocked that Elden Ring lets you make unlimited changes to your character,said, “On top of having to pay in MH, there’s a hard limit where you can never customize that character again once you’ve used all the available vouchers. What purpose does this serve? When I return to a game I haven’t played for a while, I like to change my character’s looks to keep it fresh, but I just don’t bother in Monster Hunter.”
Fortunately, PC players have a workaround for the problem, with mods for the previous games allowing you to bypass the need for the Character Edit Tokens, but that still leaves console players in the lurch.
