That said, in more unfortunate news, it appears that the next Monster Hunter game is continuing a rather troubling trend — charging for the ability to edit your character.
You Get One Do Over For Free
As first spotted by Games Radar, a recent tweetfrom the Japanese Monster Hunter Wilds accountindicates that players will be granted one free token to edit their Hunter and an additional free token to edit their Palico.
It’s unclear exactly how much it will cost to edit your character after that, but if past Monster Hunter titles are any indication, it should run players around $2.99 for a single edit voucher.
It’s a rather unfortunate trend that has impacted players of the most recent MH games.In Monster Hunter: World, the PlayStation store has listings for one, two or three character edit vouchers, with Rise, as well as the Iceborne expansion pack also following suit.Even the lighthearted RPG, Stories, has paywalled the ability to edit a character.
In other words, it’s almost assuredly par for the course when it comes to the modern Monster Hunter experience. Still, that hasn’t precluded fans of the franchise from calling out the practice. “Why not just let players make their characters the way they want?”one player wrote in response. “To make that extremely limited is just nonsensical.” They’re not wrong, but that’s just the reality we live in.
