Summary

A reliableMultiVersusinsider has recently claimed that a “notable” source says that, depending on performance, Season 5 could be the game’s last season.

Has there ever been a live-service game that’s had as rough of a go of it as MultiVersus? When it first launched in open beta all the way back in 2022, it was a smash hit that drew in big crowds and opened the game up for a very bright future. That quickly changed in its content-dry second season, which was so quiet that it caused the game to go offline for a full year.

That hiatus should have given Player First Games plenty of time to fix the issues with MultiVersus and bring it back stronger than ever, but that didn’t end up being the case. While it once again had a decent first seasonandeventually added some great characters like Samurai Jack and Raven, the content and communication have once again slowed to a crawl.

MultiVersus Could Be About To End Again If Season 5 Doesn’t Do Well

The eerie quiet surrounding MultiVersus is especially noticeable considering its fifth season, which we know nothing official about just yet, is supposed to be going live in a matter of day. Fans have started getting worried, and there might be a good reason for that, as a reliable MultiVersus insider has heard a rumour that Season 5 could be its last depending on performance.

Over on Twitter,MultiVersus leaker AusilMVS (who must be on their fifth account by now) reported that they’d been told by a “notable source"that Season 5 is being viewed as a “last-ditch effort” for MultiVersus, which means it could be curtains call if it doesn’t draw in enough players. AusilMVS was quick to remind everyone that it’s a rumour for now, but it does sound plausible.

This puts a lot of pressure on Season 5 to really deliver, which a lot of fans think isunlikely to happen considering Lola Bunnny and Aquaman are rumoured to be the next two fighters. It’s possible that PFG will shuffle around the character order to have some heavy-hitters next, but we’ll have to wait for the season to find that out.

I’m not saying that Daffy Duck could save MultiVersus, but if you want to go out with a BANG then there’s no better duck for the job.

Even as someone who fell in love with MultiVersusduring its initial open beta and even during the first and second season of its return, this rumour doesn’t surprise me much.Warner Bros. has been open about considering the game a disappointmentand thecommunity has had a lot of issues with monetisation and the character choices over the past few months.
