Summary
Ninja Gaidenfans are mostly happy with the recently released remake ofNinja Gaiden 2, despite how much content is missing from both the original game and its controversial Sigma re-release.
It’s been a very long time since Ninja Gaiden fans have had anything to look forward to beyond some slim hope that Ryu Hayabusa appears in a crossover of some kind, but that’s all changed over the last month. Not only do we have a new 2D side-scrolling game in the form of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, but we’re also getting thelong-awaited fourth entry later this year.
If all of that somehow wasn’t enough,Team Ninja also had a special gift in the form of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remake of the series' peak that combines elements from the original release and the Sigma port. Despite combining two versions of Ninja Gaiden 2, fans have noticed that there’s a lot of content that didn’t make the cut.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Is Missing Costumes, New Game Plus, And More
Once Ninja Gaiden fans got over the fact that 2 Black is a lot closer to Sigmathan the original Xbox 360 version of the game, they noticed that there have been several cuts from across the game’s many versions. Over on Twitter, dedicated fan RoytaMustDie compiled a big list of everything that’s currently not included in the hopes of it getting restored.
On the smaller end of the scale,Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is missing several costumes and recoloursfrom both the Xbox 360 version of the game and its PS3 and PS Vita Sigma ports. Those include DLC costumes, recolours of Black Falcon, and all of the outfits from Sigma 2 and Sigma 2 Plus.
RoytaMustDie notes that theBiometal costume is actually in the files of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and is currently going unused. Whether that spells hope for future updates isn’t clear right now.
The costumes are a shame, but the big bits of missing content come in the form of game modes. Mission Mode, Survival Mode, Tests of Valor, Co-Op Mode, Ninja Race, and, most depressingly of all for someone who’s right near the end of his first playthrough,New Game Plus, are all currently missing from the game.
It’s not clear whether Team Ninja plans on adding any of these to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black in the future, but it’s a surprisingly stacked roster of removed features for such an otherwise great remake. Here’s hoping we get to see them in the future to bring 2 Black closer to the quality of the original game and its expanded ports.
