Summary

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black’s first big update has just been released and it adds a number of highly-requested features such as Photo Mode, New Game Plus, and the ability to make Ryu’s bow and arrow invisible.

Considering how long it’s been since we got a proper new Ninja Gaiden game, last month’s release of a remake of Ninja Gaiden 2,titled Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, was a total blessing for fans. Not only did we havetwo brand-new games to look forward to with Ragebound and 4, but the series' best game was here and looking better than ever.

That being said, things weren’tentirelypositive for Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Hardcore fans took issue with howsimilar Black was to the infamous Sigma port, which reduced the number of enemies and was generally easier. They also weren’t too happy about all of themissing features from the original game, such as New Game Plus, bonus costumes, and more.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Update Adds Photo Mode, New Game Plus And More

While all of the above was a little annoying, there was a bright light on the horizon as Team Ninja announced shortly after the game’s release that anupdate would be arriving in February that adds “additional features”. That update has finally released, and it indeed adds a lot of things that fans were requesting.

Easily the biggest of the update’s additions is a returning feature from the OG Ninja Gaiden 2 - New Game Plus. Just like in that game, the feature lets you begin a new game on whatever difficulty level you want but with the weapons and Ninpo from a previous playthrough. Before, you basically had to do Chapter Challenge to replay the game.

Annoyingly, New Game Plus seems to revert your weapons and Ninpo to level 1, which makes Chapter Challenge a better idea for a replay to be honest.

The update also adds a Photo Mode to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black which is great considering its gorgeous visuals and pairs well with the new ability to make Ryu’s projectile weapons invisible. The final change in the update is some adjustments to the number of enemiesin Chapter 13 and 14, as well as reducing the health of some in Chapter 8 and Chapter 11.
