Summary
Last week, Hello Games launched the massiveWorlds Part 2update for the ever-expandingNo Man’s Sky. The update included billions of new solar systems and trillions of new planets for players to explore, including previously unreleased gas giants.
As is so often the case with No Man’s Sky, players have spent every hour since the update scouring the universe for new and exciting discoveries, finding new flora, fauna, and planet types along the way.

One new discovery was made by player ParcevallGaming, who found a gas giant planet that bore a striking resemblance to the trans flag. Excitedly sharing their find on the game’s subreddit, things quickly devolved into hate, with multiple comments being deleted and threads being locked.
No Man’s Sky Subreddit Faces Transphobic Comments Around New Gas Planet
ParcevallGaming’s planet is a pretty one. It’s a light blue color with a baby pink stripe running through the middle, much like the flag representing transgender folk.
Excited about what they found, ParcevallGaming posted images of the planet on the game’s subreddit with reference to the trans flag. While many of the comments shared their excitement, as is so often the case on the internet, things turned to hate.

In the thread, multiple messages were deleted, and the thread was locked soon after. ParcevallGaming then posted asecond defiant thread, noting they would “sleep easy knowing that you will be offended by the color of a fictional planet in a video game about 9 percent of the time you visit a gas giant.” Once again, it received dozens of hateful comments and was locked.
One user suggested that Parcevall should never have included “sexuality as a part of your posts,” to which theyresponded, “I made a simple observation of ‘Oh hey, this planet I found looks like a pride flag, neat.’ And then I received 40 hate comments in eight hours, and several people reported my Reddit account.”

It’s a scathing reminder of just how toxic the internet can be, if it was ever needed, but there was a small ray of sunshine with so many players rushing to ParcevallGaming’s defense.
