It’s a great time to be aOne Piecefan. Not only is there a lot more of the anime and manga yet to come, but the One Piece live action Netflix show was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, things aren’t quite as sunny on the video games side of things, withBandai Namcocancelling its One Piece and Naruto games in October last year and reportedly also forcing employees to quit.
However, it seems collectors are in for a great time, as One Piece is teasing a collaboration with Lego. The building block toy company has tied up with almost every IP imaginable, and it seems its eyes are now set on the anime world. However, what might surprise some fans is that the collaboration is with the One Piece live action show for some reason.
One Piece Is Getting Lego Sets
This collaboration was teased via a short clip on the One Piece Netflix Twitter handle that shows Luffy outstretched arm picking up his iconic straw hat. However, where fans expected the traditional One Piece logo was the Netflix version, causing a bit of confusion. While a bit puzzled, fans of One Piece were undoubtedly excited.
No other information on this collaboration has been revealed, but we can expect the entire Straw Hats crew, the Going Merry, the Thousand Sunny, and a number of other pirate ships from the anime and manga. However, potentially the coolest thing about these sets is seeing how Lego incorporates Luffy’s stretchy powers. We already got a sneak peek in the teaser, but surely we’ll see more once the sets are revealed.
As for why Lego has collaborated with the live action version and not the anime directly, it could be speculated that it was done this way to avoid licensing complexities. However, given that the live action version was quite faithful to the source material, the sets will most likely feel like they were inspired by the anime or manga themselves.
“Through every detail of the design process, we’ve worked to meticulously create a collection of playsets that will give fans new ways to live out their own epic voyages into the Grand Line one special brick at a time,”saidNetflix Vice President of Consumer Products, Josh Simon.
