Summary

Nearly five years after thePS4andXbox Oneversions launched,One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4has been confirmed to get a current-gen edition forPS5andXbox Seriesthat’ll even include new DLC.

Despite being the most popular manga and anime series of all time (and yes,I say that as someone who prefers Dragon Ball by a country mile), One Piece hasn’t had the greatest track record when it comes to video games. It’s had some decent ones like Odyssey and World Seeker, but generally it’s not had a breakout hit - that is, if you don’t count the Pirate Warriors games.

I had you going for a minute there, but One Piece: Pirate Warriors iswithout a doubt the apex of the series' games and successfully melds the worlds of Dynasty Warriors and One Piece together. The best and most recent game in the series, Pirate Warriors 4, is nearly five years old, but it’s about to get a fresh coat of paint in the future.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 Is Coming To Current-Gen Consoles

Out of nowhere, the One Piece Games Twitter account revealed that Pirate Warriors 4 is going to be ported over to PS5 and Xbox Series X, with a press release later confirming that the upgrade will be completely free for anyone who owned the PS4 or Xbox One version of the game. The current-gen version is just in time for the game to have reached four million units sold.

One Piece fans have been asking for a port of Pirate Warriors 4 (or preferably a new game altogether, but let’s see what happens after this) for a long time now, but that isn’t even the best part of the news.Bandai confirmed that more updates and characters are going to be released as DLC in the future, with fans voting on who they want to join the game, similarly to Xenoverse 2’s Conton City Vote.

Bandai didn’t announce a release date for the PS5 and Xbox Series versions of Pirate Warriors 4, but it surely can’t be too far away.

The list of potential characters to join Pirate Warriors 4 has 23 options, with participants able to choose three characters each. Right now, it’s now clear how many new characters are joining the game, but it does seem to be three new DLC fighters to start with. Really, though,we’ve already got Gear 5 Luffy, so it doesn’t matter to me one bit.
