Summary
Onimusha: Way of the Swordis finally bringing the Onimusha series back in 2026,as the title was announced at The Game Awards last year. Unfortunately, we didn’t get much info fromCapcomat the time, but the publisher has now remedied that during today’s State of Play, giving us gameplay footage for the first time.
Our trailer begins with the introduction of our hero, Miyamoto Musashi, who is most likely based on the famous Japanese swordsman of the same name. We see him go toe-to-toe with a group of nasty looking monsters/demons, before a smooth cut to what appears to be official gameplay.

Onimusha: Way Of The Sword Gameplay Revealed At State Of Play
Most of the gameplay consists of sword fights, which is pretty typical of Onimusha to be fair, but there did appear to be some fun ways to use the environment. For example, Musashi sticks his sword into a table and drags it up to himself as cover, and also kicks an enemy into a nearby torch to set it on fire. He also seems to wrap some cloth around a foe to cover its head and blind him (one member of TheGamer was very impressed by this tech).
It all looks very impressive, but unfortunately, we didn’t get any more information on a potential launch date. Back when Onimusha: Way of the Sword was first announced, Capcom gave us a vague window of 2026 to look forward to, and that window hasn’t been narrowed down during this trailer.

At least Capcom fans have plenty of games to fill their time with,as not only do we have Monster Hunter Wilds on the horizon, but we also havea remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny to look forward to as well. We don’t have a release date for that one either, but we do know it will be launching in 2025 at some point. It should fill the samurai-sized hole in your heart before Way of the Sword arrives in 2026, at the very least.
