Monster Hunter’smonsters are divided into categories like Flying, Brute, Piscine, and Temnoceran (whatever that means), but over the years I have created a few categories of my own. For example, Tobi-Kadachi belongs to the category Very Good Boys, while all the spider-like monsters belong in the Nope! category. Every monster fits into one of my categories - except one: Khezu. Khezu is a monster that defies categorization, while also being so foul and unpleasant to think about that it must be quarantined in a category of its own....

Summary It’s tough not to feel down onMagic: The Gathering’sAetherdrift. While I wasn’t especially excited for a racing-themed set, I also wasn’t as vehemently against it as some corners of the community. It returns to three settings I enjoy, features characters I love, and boasts more than a few cards that catch my eye. But Aetherdrift feels like a set Wizards doesn’t have the room to release any more. In a year dominated by crossover sets, having a release this irreverent and self-aware stings more than it ever would have before....

Not many miniatures games start withFortnite. Zeo Genesis doesn’t use the battle royale as inspiration for its mech-based skirmish warfare, but its creator, Danny Block, worked at Epic when Fortnite exploded in popularity. A lot of the funding for his miniature-based passion project came from that enormous hit. “I basically wanted to make a miniature game for most of my adult life,” Block tells me over video call. It was only when Fortnite’s success allowed for an early retirement that he set about chasing his dream....

Summary In a massive surprise, during Thursday’s Xbox Developer Direct,Team Ninja, in partnership with Platinum Games, announced that it is reviving the Ninja Gaiden franchise with a new entry, Ninja Gaiden 4, that’s due out later this year. That announcement was topped several minutes later,when it was revealed that 2008’s Ninja Gaiden 2 would be receiving a remaster in the form of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Oh, and it’s out everywhere....

Summary The most significant change introduced withOverwatch 2was the shift from 6v6 to 5v5.This proved to be incredibly divisive, with many calling for the old team sizes to return.6v6 modes were then rolled out on a temporary basisand seem to have been a success, as there are now plans to take this further. Speaking in a new blog post, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller addresses the future of 6v6, saying that it will “probably” become a permanent fixture in the game in some form or another....

With some great versatility, a lot of burst damage, and the ability to deal with downtime like no one else, it’s easy to see how its beautiful paintings managed to conquer everyone’s hearts in all game modes. This, of course, includes PvP battles, where the job is just as powerful as in regular Dungeons and Raids....

Every time PlayStation does a State of Play, I inevitably roll my eyes at howfamiliareverything looks. I have receipts, likethis article from last Maywhere I complained about how boring everything was – they all looked like variations on existing games, and also fairly similar to each other. I was bored then, and I also was bored at 6am, when I watched the most recent State of Play in bed on my phone, fighting the urge to just go back to sleep because most of what I was seeing felt like a whole lot of nothing....

Summary TheSwitch 2has finally been announced by Nintendo after weeks of leaks and rumours. And despite the reveal video showing us what the new handheld/console hybrid looks like, it left plenty of room for questions. Nintendo has already announced that a Switch 2 Direct will be held on April 2, where we will likely get our first deep-dive look into the system’s bells and whistles. Until then, however, we are left to fill in the gaps ourselves with all the questions we have left about the successor to the Switch....

If you had asked me a month ago what I wanted to see next in the Story of Seasons series, I would have said “a brand new title”. Marvelous has been mostly alternating between remakes and new games since it rebranded from Harvest Moon to Story of Seasons. As much as I love those remakes, it felt like we were due for somewhere new to settle down and enjoy after A Wonderful Life....

But to get all of that and reach thezen-like grindportion that makes the series so compelling, you need to finish the main story first. Crafting isn’t as essential in the main story of Monster Hunter Wilds as it is after the credits roll....
