Summary

Nintendo just announced at the latest Direct that Patapon 1+2 Replay is coming to Switch, PC, and PS5 on May 07, 2025.

First released in 2007 for the PSP, this Japan Studio-produced and Pyramid-developed rhythm game sees you controlling the titular anthropomorphic eyeballs (as their god, no less), commanding them to move, attack, and defend with drum beats against the villainous Zigotons. It was such a hit, nominated for several BAFTA awards, that it received a sequel just one year later.

In 2017, the first game was ported to the PS4 (followed up by the sequel in 2020), and the series was such a cult favourite among PlayStation players that it was even incorporated intoAstro Botas one of its many cameos. Now, it returns to handheld with the new Switch port, furthering Nintendo and Sony’s partnership followingthe release of Lego Horizon Adventures last year.

Patapon 1 + 2 Is Being Published By Bandai Namco

While the duology is a PlayStation exclusive, developed by the shuttered Japan Studio (the bones of which have become Team Asobi), Sony isn’t behind the remaster. As revealed in the closing slide, Bandai Namco — which also published the Japan Studio co-developed PS3 exclusiveDemon’s Soulsin the West — is handling the ports.

The first Patapon released to an aggregate score of 86 onMetacritic, with critics writing that the unique designs are “what makes the game so damn lovable”, and that the “only drawback is that there aren’t enough hours in a day to play as much as you’ll want to”. It was heralded as “one of the more engaging and wonderfully unique titles to grace the PSP”.
