Summary

PlatinumGames was once among the cream of the crop when it came to videogame developers. With the likes of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance,Nier: Automata, and theBayonettaseries to its name, it looked like the studio could do no wrong. Unfortunately, things haven’t been quite the same since 2020’sBabylon’s Fall.

The live service game was so universally panned that it wasshut down within six months. One could even think of it as the starting point of the live service downfall we’ve seen over the last few years. It seems Platinum is keen to move on from it, as a website update has seen mentions of the game, along with a few others, removed. The most notable of these omissions is Project G.G.

No More Superheroes

Project G.G. wasannounced via a teaser trailer five years ago. It featured what was supposed to be a superhero that could grow in size to battle other enormous foes. Platinum itself touted the game as “The powerful climax to the Hideki Kamiya superhero trilogy!” However, we’ve heard nothing about it since then, and it looks unlikely that we ever will, now that it’s been removed from the website.

This was spotted by former PlatinumGames producer Jean Pierre Kellams (thanks,VGC), who accused the studio of erasing its own history. “Saw this on ResetEra, and I have no idea why they did it, but [PlatinumGames is] erasing its history on its website is extremely regrettable,” he said on Twitter. “I wonder if they pulled the carpet tiles out of the lobby, too. As someone proud of working on those games, I feel deeply insulted by this.”

Along with that, he shared before-and-after screenshots of the website, where the studio’s games section went from around 20 games to nine. However, VGC noted that the webpages of these games are still active, but the one for Project G.G. redirects to the PlatinumGames homepage.

Hideki Kamiya left PlatinumGames in 2023. However, last year he said that hestill wants to make sequels for Viewtiful Joe and Okamithelatter of which was announced at The Game Awards 2024.
