Summary
Part of what was a very busy holiday period for both confirmed and rumored newPlayStationhardware was chatter about more of thePS5’s accessories being added tothe console’s Midnight Black collection. Those rumors have now been confirmed as PlayStation has revealed which accessories will be getting a black makeover, how much they will cost, and when you will be able to pre-order them.
The DualSense and PS5 covers have been available in Midnight Black for a while, and joining them, asconfirmed via the PlayStation Blog, isthe DualSense Edge, the PlayStation Portal, the Pulse Explore Earbuds, and the Pulse Elite Headset. The standout among those four additions is the Portal both because it isn’t currently available in many color options, and because it sells out fast regardless of its color.
The Portal was heavily critiqued when revealed in 2023 due to it needing a PS5 to function. That didn’t stop it from selling out almost immediately and until now, the only color options have been white and PS1 grey, the latter selling out even faster than the standard model. The black Portal comes witha matching black carry caseand will cost the same as the white version -$199.99. That wasn’t guaranteed with the 30th anniversary edition costing $20 more.
PlayStation Is Expanding Its Midnight Black Collection
Might Be Time To Finally Pull The Trigger On That Portal
The Midnight Black earbuds will likely be the second most sought-after item of the four since, much like the white Portal, the standard version sold out very quickly once pre-orders went live. That’s despitetheir lofty price point of $199.99which will also apply to the black earbuds. The black Pulse Elite headset will be quite a bit cheaper, like the white headset, at $149.99. The case for the earbuds and the hangar for the headset will also be black, andboth will come with a felt grey carry case.
Rounding out the new additions to the Midnight Black collection is a black DualSense Edge which, like everything else revealed today, comes with a matching accessory. In the Edge’s case, that’s a carry case. The controller will also retain the same price as the original version of the DualSense Edge andretail for $199.99.
Pre-orders for all four items will beginexclusively at PlayStation Direct on July 05, 2025. Links will go liveat 10 am EST in the US, but that will likely differ depending on where you are in the world. The items will be released on Jun 09, 2025, so only a little more than a month to wait if you do manage to grab something from the collection at the first time of asking.
