Summary

PlayStationjust put on a relatively exciting State of Play event earlier this week, withcool announcements such as Tide of Annihilationand theLies of P: Overture DLC, and closer looks at already revealed titles likeLost Soul AsideandOnimusha: Way of the Sword. However, apart froma teaser for Housemarque’s next game, Saros,it was light on first-party games.

We know that the company has a lot of games in the works, such asGhost of Yotei,Death Stranding 2, Marvel’s Wolverine, and therecently announced Naughty Dog game Intergalactic, so it was a little strange we didn’t see any of them at this week’s State of Play. Now, all eyes are turned towards this summer, and PlayStation could be planning a big show.

PlayStation Showcase Reportedly Being Considered For This Summer, Claims Insider

In the latest episode of Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess podcast, he claims that PlayStation have been holding internal discussions about whether to hold a State of Play this summer, or to make it a full-blown PlayStation Showcase. For a while now, PlayStation has preferred to put on smaller State of Play events, withthe last major showcase taking place all the way back in May 2023.

“They could still have some fun announcements, they could really start bolstering the expectations for 2026,” says Grubb. “I think internally it sounds like they’re debating and flopping between maybe making something this summer a full showcase versus a State of Play, but they are considering a showcase.”

It doesn’t sound as though any plans are confirmed right now, but a full showcase would make a lot of sense, given we’ve still seen very little of PlayStation’s already announced titles. Marvel’s Wolverine has been in a state of mystery for a little while, with Insomniac recently claiming that it’s not quite ready to show anything off just yet, while we’re still waiting for more Ghost of Yotei, even though it’s set to launch at some point this year.
