Summary

Pokemon’s Prismatic Evolutions products have been incredibly hard to come by. The set sold out in the minutes and if you’ve seen stock being put out at a Costco or a Target, you’ve likely bore witness to a low-level riot. If you’ve been struggling to find anything from Prismatic Evolutions in stock, it might make you feel better to know that even professional footballers are having trouble getting their hands on them.

A clip showing Athletico Madrid’s Antione Griezmann making a pitchside trade with some fans went viral over the weekend.Shared by Pokemon Giveaways, the La Liga star is shown jogging over to some fans in the front row. Griezmann gives one of the fans a high five and greets the younger fan before handing them an Athletico shirt, presumably the one he wore in the match that just ended behind him which was likely the side’s 5-0 trouncing of Getafe last week.

After Griezmann hands the fans his shirt, they give him a couple of Prismatic Evolutions Elite Trainer Boxes in return. Considering what some people would do for one of those ETBs, that’s quite the trade-off. Some players will give their match-worn shirts to fans for nothing, or trade them with a player on the opposing team. Not sure anyone from Getafe would have been up for a shirt swap after a 5-0 beating, though.

Two Prismatic Evolutions ETBs Waiting For Him Pitchside All Match Long

On the one hand, it’s kind of nice to know even someone like Griezmann, who earns roughly $10.5 million per year, had as much trouble buying Prismatic Evolutions products through the Pokemon Center as the rest of us. The image of him sitting at his laptop, frustrated that he couldn’t get through the virtual queue makes me feel a little better about not landing any myself. However, that he can use his fame to bag himself a couple of ETBs, an option not available to me, quickly brings me right back down to Earth.

Pokemon has assured fans that there is more Prismatic Evolutions stock coming, but that hasn’t stopped the market around what’s available now from becoming wild and unpredictable. Despite the promise that there’s more to come, a single card from the set’s $60 ETBwas being sold for more than $100before Prismatic Evolutions products had even been released.

The process looks set to begin all over again with the Pokemon TCG’s next set, Journey Together. The first wave of pre-orders for the next set has already been released andits ETBs have been showing up on resale sites for as much as $500.
