Summary

Pokemonofficially revealedits upcoming Journey Together seton Thursday and then caused a low-scale frenzy by quietly opening pre-orders for some of its items at the Pokemon Center. Naturally, those items sold out almost immediately, and even thoughthey won’t ship until the end of March, some who managed to bag an Elite Trainer Box from the first Journey Together drop have alreadylisted them on resale sites for as much as $500.

Journey Together will be the next set in thePokemon TCGafter Prismatic Evolutions, an Eevee-centric set that releases next week, pre-orders for which should have been an indicator of what would happen when Journey Together’s first wave of items went live. What sets the expansion apart from most others is its use of owner’s Pokemon, now called trainer’s Pokemon, which have been a part of the TCG since 2000 but have been absent for quite a while.

Clearly a popular decision considering the speed at which Journey Together’s first drop sold out, but unfortunately, the listings on resale sites suggest a great deal of the stock was snapped up by scalpers. There arepages of Journey Together ETBs listed on eBayin the US right now with the asking prices different greatly. They seem to betopping out at around $500, which a couple of sellers are asking for and a price that would get you eight of them when bought from the Pokemon Center with money to spare.

Pokemon’s Journey Together ETBs Are Already Appearing On Resale Sites

Some Scalpers Are Trying To Get As Much As $500 For Them

On the bright side, the listings asking desperate Pokemon fans to pay hundreds of dollars for an ETBthey could buy for $59.99if scalpers didn’t snap them up don’t seem to be selling. The listings that require buyers to bid for items are a better gauge of what people are willing to pay for the Journey Together items. Even in that instance, they’re selling for a lot more than they’re worth with an auction that people have bid forcurrently sitting at $180 with two days still to go.

It’s worth noting that the Pokemon Center’s ETBs will be more sought after than general stock since they include an exclusive card and additional packs. That said, when Journey Together stuff starts finding its way into other stores, don’t dawdle if you want it. That will sell out quickly too. Sadly, this just seems to be how it is with the Pokemon TCG for now. If you want the latest cards right away, it’s a case of being fast, paying through the nose, or striking it lucky.
