However, for as popular as TCG Pocket has been, it’s been missing a key feature of the real-life game — the ability to trade. A long-awaited feature that has been promised for some time, fans have been anticipating the ability to trade to help complete collections.
Ahead of the feature’s debut later this month, the team behind Pokémon TCG Pocket took to Twitter to outline how trading will work when it does launch. Hint: it’s not as robust, yet.
Go Make Some Friends
According to details outlined on Twitter, the ability to trade will take place between friends. Additionally, trades can be done with cards of the same rarity, with certain cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island able to be dealt at launch.
“We are planning to continue to expand the selection of booster packs that you may trade from,” the post outlined. That seemingly means promo packs can’t be swapped, at least not right away.
As far as which cards can be traded, those with a rarity between 1-4 and 1-star cards can be traded. In other words, two-and-three-star cards won’t be part of the feature. And perhaps most noteworthy of all, items must be consumed in order to trade. That last part might come as a bit of a bummer for those looking to finish collections rather quickly.
That said, it appears that TCG Pocket will be flexible when it comes to updates. “We’ll continue to monitor player feedback and assess future updats to the trade feature while keeping in mind how to balance both the ease and enjoyability of collecting,” the post read.
As a final note, the next set of booster packs will also come in January. Ultimately, it’s a significant bit of information, though several major details, incluiding how many items will be needed for a trade are still unknown. For the sake of those 60 million-plus players, hopefully it’s not long.
