Summary

Pokemon TCG Pocketplayers have been waiting for a trade feature to be added to the game since it launched - the T in TCG does stand for trading after all. Well, the wait is almost over withthe reveal trailer for Pocket’s next expansion, Space-Time Smackdown, confirming players will be able to start trading their cards the day before the new set arrives on the app.

Confirmation thattrading will begin on January 28was saved for the very end of the trailer since, despite how much players have been requesting it, the feature’s imminent arrival isn’t quite as groundbreaking as a first look at the next expansion. It’s good to know it will be here very soon though, and that we will have a chance to make our first trades before everyone’s focus shifts to Space-Time Smackdown the following day.

It also makes a lot of sense for trading to be introduced right before the arrival of the next set. Those of us with annoying gaps in our Genetic Apex and Mythical Island collections will be able to liaise with friends during the 24 hours before Space-Time Smackdown’s arrival so that we don’t have to think about them as much once the expansion demands our attention. I know someone out there with a Gyarados ex who is willing to trade it for my spare Venasaur ex, and I’d like to complete that transaction before a new set muddies the waters.

Trading Comes To Pokemon TCG Pocket On January 28

With Its Next Big Expansion Following 24 Hours Later

The quick confirmation that trading will be introduced on January 28 also includes a first look at how the trade screen will appear in-game. No big surprises here with the screen simply showing the two cards being traded with the option to either go through with the trade or decline it. It has already been confirmed thatyou will only be able to trade cards with friends, so no risk of being inundated with requests for your gold crown Charizard.

In fact, even your friends won’t be able to pester you for a card that rare since there are other restrictions in place on Pocket’s trading. Onlycards of have a rarity of between one and four diamonds, plus one-star cards, can be traded. A cardcan also only be traded for one of equal rarity, so no trying to trick your less-knowledgable friends into swapping their beautiful one-star Porygon for the Blitzle card you have 12 copies of.
