Summary

As a franchise,Red Dead Redemptionmay be pretty old, with the first game, in particular, set to celebrate its 15-year anniversary in May. Meanwhile,Red Dead Redemption 2 is considerably younger, having only been out for six years. Still, somehow, the first Red Dead Redemption barely made it to PC in 2024.

That said, for as legendary a franchise as Red Dead is,chock-full of memorable quotesandunique characters, there are still discoveries being made by fans. In the most recent case of fans discovering something that many did not know, Jack Marston’s real name.

Wait, He Wasn’t Jackson Marston?

As first discovered in the Red Dead Redemption subreddit, a fan that was going through the game manual of the original Red Dead Redemption realized that Jack is actually named John Marston Jr. Of course, he goes by a nickname, AKA Jack.

Remember when video games used to have manuals? How else would we find out Jack’s real name?

“We got the real name for Jack but not Uncle lol,“one gamer wrote in response. Indeed, the manual has Uncle simply listed as “Uncle,” leaving his real name a mystery to this very moment, unless it really is Uncle, as one user thinks it is.

Jokes aside, gamers were still confused at how the name John translates into the nickname Jack. “Like, it’s literally just a completely different name,“one user shared. “Imagine introducing yourself as Kevin and someone’s just like, ‘Alright Imma call you Phil.'”

The fact that Jack is actually a John has other fans wondering if Bill Williamson is actually William Williamson. Fortunately, that mystery had already been solved. His real name is Marion, and he changed it sometime after being discharged from Army, per an in-game journal entry. All things considered, Jack is actually John, and, well, Uncle is seemingly actually just Uncle. Maybe that mystery will get resolved if there’s ever a third Red Dead Redemption.
