As it turns out,Resistance 4ismore than just a pipedreambyPlayStationfans, it was actually an idea thatInsomniac Gamespitched toSony. Unfortunately, that pitch was turned down.

In an interview with Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller, Ted Price, the founder of Insomniac Games, who recently announced his intentions to retire from the video game industry at the end of March, revealed that the first-party developer had pitched another entry in its first-person shooter franchise.

“We did pitch that one (Resistance 4), and it was a wonderful concept, and, it just, in terms of timing and market opportunity, didn’t work out,” he said. “But it was the result of a lot of Insomniac team members being passionate about extending the story further because I do believe that Resistance has set up a really cool alternate history base where anything can happen with the Chimera and where they go and what their origins are.”

According to Price, extensive work was put into the game’s potential backstory, as well as the overall direction of the franchise moving forward. Furthermore, in response to how Resistance 3 ended, Price offered some clarity on some of the story decisions that were made.

“Resistance 3 was intended to end that chapter of the Resistance franchise,” he explained. “With the way we ended with (Joseph) Cappelli, and closed a lot of loops on various smaller story items. We wanted to do that so we would have more options in the future, whether we were to go ahead with more Resistance games or take another turn.”

When asked if, as a fan and gamer and not an executive, whether he would want to see Resistance return, Price had this to say:

“Honestly, I hope so. I would love to see the story taken further.”
