Summary
Withthe disappointment that was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League fully behind them, UK-basedRocksteady Studioshas begun the search process for a new Game Director.
As shared on the official Warner Bros. Discovery career page on Monday, Rocksteady is searching for a Game Director who will be responsible for “delivering high-quality design across the game, including core gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design.”
Specifically, Rocksteady is searching for someone with experience with ”strong design leadership and experience across multiple genres, particularly Third-Person Action, Melee Brawlers, and Open World Traversal games.”
As of this writing, it’s unclear what that game will be, thoughit was previously rumored that Rocksteady is eyeing a return to the Batman Arkham series. A third-person action game with melee combat would certainly corroborate those rumors.
We Likely Won’t Hear From Rocksteady For Some Time
Included in that same report that shared Rocksteady’s intentions of returning to Batman, it was also reported that any title is “years away,” meaning things will likely be radio silent for a while. For reference,Batman Arkham Knight was released in 2015, andSuicide Squad didn’t launch until 2024.
While it’s not a given that the game will be specifically a Batman title,it’s important to note that Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav said late last year that the company would essentially be doubling down on its four proven franchises, of which Batman is one of them.
“We have four strong and profitable game franchises with loyal, global fans: Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC, in particular, Batman. We are focusing our development efforts on those core franchises, with proven studios to improve our success ratio.”
Perhaps a return to Batman or, at the very least, a game that makes use of the Freeflow Combat system could be just what the studio needs to get back on track.
