The Xenoblade games are known for their gripping stories, thoughXenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Editiontakes a slightly different approach. While the main story is no slouch, it’s not the real focus of the game. Instead, the game wants you to invest in its people, big and small, for the betterment of Humanity’s survivors and all of those who dwell on Mira.

And sometimes, that might require being a little cruel. Early on you’re able to pick up the City Saviors missions to take out a pack of Suids on the outskirts of NLA. Surely such a small pack of alien piggies won’t be a threat to the city? Well, looks can be deceiving, so here’s what you should do to succeed in the City Saviors quest.

An overview of NLA at night in xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition.

How To Begin The City Saviors Mission

This mission can bepicked up from Carl once you’ve started Chapter 3of the main story. He is found in the upper level of the Administrative District, not far from Armory Alley. He’ll tell you about some Suids that have been causing trouble near the city gates. They’re holed away in a cave not far from the walls, and asks you to take them out.

Cruel as it might be as the invader yourself in this scenario, asmall amount of culling might be just what humanity needsto keep on living in Mira. Except once you actually get there, you see these Suids are just babies. And could you really be so curel as to kill baby Suids?

Should You Let The Suids Live?

After witnessing these baby Suids, you call up Carl who gives a rather morbid philosophical debate as to whether it really is right to kill these little creatures in their own home just to preserve Humanity. Not quite up to answer that dilemma himself, he lets you make the choice instead. At this point, you can simplyleave the Suids beand return to Carl to finish the quest, or you cankill the Suids and their motherbefore returning to Carl.

No matter what choice you make, your reward will be 7,000 Credits, 130 EXP, and a Forerunner’s Uniform. However, this choice does have rather dramatic consequences down the line. If you choose to kill the Suids now, the quest is resolved and permanently complete.

If you choose to have compassion in this moment, however, that will come back to haunt you. In Chapter Seven,a new quest will open up, A Painful Lesson, that has the grown-up Suids invade the city and kill Carl who originally gave you the quest in the first place. There is a reward to this quest of13,000 Credits and 230 EXP, though is that really worth the loss of another life?

A Painful Lessondoes not contribute to Segment Recon or the Survey Rate, so you can make whatever choice you want without missing out.
