Sonic And Like A Dragon Devs Are “Short Of Staff”

During the Q&A, Sega also revealed that it plans to strengthen three of its core developers, Sonic Team, RGG, and Atlus, to help focus on the aforementioned franchises in fiscal year 2026.

“Atlus is an important studio for us to expand Japanese IPs overseas, and we think it is necessary to strengthen it, and the studios involved in the Sonic and Like a Dragon IPs are also short of staff, and we are looking to reinforce personnel through additional hiring and [mergers and acquisitions],” Sega explained, though it didn’t divulge any further details about the possible M&As.

In the current fiscal year, Sega has already sold 20 million units of new games, and 12 million units of legacy games.

It’s not just gaming that Sega is enjoying success with, either. The recently releasedSonic 3 movie became the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation in historylast month, dethroning Warcraft and Detective Pikachu. Fittingly, Sonic is now second only to Mario, bringing their decades-long rivalry to the silver screen. With sequels to both underway, it’ll be interesting to see how things shake up in a couple of years.
