Summary
UnlessSegahas a surprise up its sleeve, its nextSonicgame will beCrossWorlds. We still know very little about what to expect from the next Sonic racing game, but judging by a brief but notable interaction on Twitter, we might see Sonic and the gang racing against characters from non-Sega games.
The insinuation that characters from a game that doesn’t reside under the Sega umbrella might show up in CrossWorlds started with the reveal thatLike A Dragon skins are coming to Among Us. you may now dress your crewmates up in Kiryu skins thanks to a collaboration between Sega andInnerSloth, and the replies to that reveal have teased that their relationship is far from over.

Someone replied to the reveal noting that sinceYakuzais now inAmong Us, and Among Us crewmates were added to Sega’sSuper Monkey Ballearlier this year, there’s a chance the crossovers might continue in CrossWorlds. InnerSloth replied to the list via the official Among Us account by asking that the OP “have mr. sonic contact” them.
Crewmates Might Be In CrossWorlds
Seems Sus
Sega has replied to Among Us with a simple “you rang?” and for now, that appears to be the end of the back and forth. However, the developers of both games, coupled with the two team-ups already in 2025, heavily imply there will not only be characters from other games, but some of those games might not be Sega games, on the CrossWorlds roster.
Even though CrossWorlds doesn’t have a release date, some people have already played it. There was a network test for the racing game last month, but only Sonic characters were shown. However,Sega has at least already confirmed there will be non-Sonic characters in the game, confirming the roster will eventually include “iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes.”

No mention of iconic characters from outside of Sega’s universes, but that now seems to be a distinct possibility. It has also been confirmed that characters will be added to the game post-launch, so it could be a situation where we exclusively get Sonic characters at launch and non-Sonic characters join the starting grid in the months that follow. A similar approach is used for Super Monkey Ball, so that might also mean non-Sonic characters are pre-order bonuses.
It’s been a while since the last Sonic racing game, and it’s been even longer since the last Sonic racing game that included playable characters from outside the Blue Blur’s bubble.Team Sonic Racingwas released in 2019, but it only included Sonic characters. It’s been more than a decade since others were invited to race alongside Knuckles, Shadows, and the rest of the Sonic cast in 2012’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
