Summary

Sonic Unleashedis an important part of the series' history, giving us the core gameplay loop that is still being used in 3DSonicgames to this day. However, there is no way to legitimately play the game on PC, despite many other Sonic games getting ports over the years.

Now, a fan has not only made the game playable on PC, but may have given us the best way to experience Sonic Unleashed yet. Unleashed Recompiled has been put together by a programmer going by the name of Skyth online, and works as an unofficial PC port of the game. It even comes with modern quality of life features, like an unlocked framerate and ultrawide monitor support.

Almost twenty years since Sonic Unleashed launched, a fan has brought it to PC

Looking at the trailer put together by Skyth, this looks just like the real deal. They’ve even gone to the effort of implementing achievements into the game, so you’re not missing out on any of the features from the console releases.

Fans are overwhelmingly impressed, and it’s easy to see why. This programmer has managed to throw together what many have been calling onSegato release for years, and has put it online for free.

To get the game to work, you will need the game files. Since it never released on PC, a way to do this is to get yourXbox 360and a copy of the game, and then use a transfer cable to get these files on our computer. Once you’ve done this, the decompiler will let you play on PC with all of these add-ons and upgrades.

Perhaps at some point, Sega will hear everyone’s pleas and do something with Sonic Unleashed. We did just get a re-release ofSonic Generationsthanks toSonic X Shadow Generations, so the studio isn’t averse to revisiting its older games.
