Summary

As part of its first Developer Direct of the year,Xboxjust gave us our best look yet atSouth of Midnightand confirmed that it’ll be launching

Even though 2025 only just started, it’s already been a surprisingly busy time for gaming. Not only have we finally had the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, but Xbox also decided to show off its hand early with its annual January Developer Direct, which focused on Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and more.

As exciting as Doom is, the highlight of the showcase for me personally was South of Midnight, adelightful-looking 3D action platformer set in the South that was revealed back in 2023. Xbox previously promised that South of Midnight would be a big part of the Developer Direct, and it certainly delivered on that count.

South Of Midnight Releases April 8

After the Xbox Developer Direct opened up with the surprise announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4, Compulsion Games took the stage to show off South of Midnight. The studio went into more detail on the game’s story, combat, exploration, and Hazel’s unique set of weaving powers. Without a doubt, it’s the best look at the game we’ve had so far.

While it was great to see more of South of Midnight and the work that Compulsion Games has put into it, the highlight of its time in the showcase was when the game’s release date was revealed. Surprisingly, we can expect to play South of Midnight in just a few months, as it’s currently set for release on April 8.

Interestingly, this tracks with what gaming insider NateDrake previously said about South of Midnight’s release date, suggesting he was right about the other games he mentioned.

That means we won’t be waiting long at all to get our hands on South of Midnight, which means that Xbox is going to have quite the stacked year ahead of it.
