Summary

Hazelight Studios' highly-anticipated follow-up toIt Takes Two,Split Fictionreleases this week and although it isn’t a sequel to 2021’s Game of the Year, it is built on the same co-op foundation. That means Split Fiction cannot be played alone. You need a second player, and Hazelight has jokingly announced a Friend Edition for anyone who wants to play but doesn’t have a gamer friend to play with.

The ad for Split Fiction’s Friend Edition stars Hazelight director Josef Fares noting that he has heard our complaints about not being able to play alone, and this is the response. A limited edition version of the game that includes a second controller, a copy of Split Fiction, and a friend to play it with. The friends being shipped with this faux edition of the game don’t appear to have been clued in on the scheme, though.

The press release for the Friend Edition notes that it will be a very limited edition version of the game, andthe link takes you to a page on the EA Split Fiction sitethat says the ‘product’ has sold out. That’s not because it has actuallyhassold out, but because this isn’t real. Yes, that’s right, I hate to break it to you, but as elaborate as some video game collector’s editions can be, this isn’t going to be the first time a real-life human being has been shipped with one.

Hazelight Has Announced A Split Fiction Friend Edition

The ad is simply a way to let people know thatHazelight has a Discordwhere people who want to play but don’t have someone to play with can find their player two. The Split Fiction section of that Discord will soon be filled with people eager to play who don’t have an available gamer in their lives, so no need to be embarrassed. The people you’re looking for will be looking for the same thing as you.

You might even find a way to play Split Fiction without paying for it. There’s a chance some of the people looking for someone to play with in the Discord already own the game. If you pair up with them, you will be able to play through Split Fiction with them in its entirety without having to play the game yourself.

That’s thanks to the return of Hazelight’s Friend Pass. It Takes Two used the studio’s Friend Pass so that two people could play one copy even if they were on different consoles. Not only will that be the case for Split Fiction too, but Hazelight has cranked things up a notch. Split Fiction’s Friend Pass will be cross-platform. That means even if you are playing onXbox Series X, your Split Fiction companion can join you onPS5.
