Summary

According to French publisher and accessories manufacturer Nacon, the Nintendo Switch 2 is due to launch by September at the latest.

“Business levels in the first half of [fiscal year] 2025/26 will be supported by several positive factors,” one of which being “the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 console,” Nacon said in a sales press release (viaGamesRadar).

That means, given the upcoming Direct, we can expect the console to launch between April and September. The Direct is where Nintendo will likely give us a concrete release date, while diving into the specs of its new handheld and possibly unveiling a few launch titles (like the untitled Mario Kart sequel). This is what happened with the first Switch during a presentation in Tokyo, after all.

So, it’s unlikely the Switch 2will release before April, but can we narrow it down any further?

June Seems Likely

Nintendo will be holding hands-on Switch 2 events across the world from April 4 until June 1, giving players from Europe to North America, Asia, and Oceania a few months to try the console for themselves. It’s unlikely that the Switch 2 will release during these events, so we can narrow down that launch window even further: somewhere between June and September.

However, June already looks to be the most likely candidate. The hour-long Tokyo showcase took place on July 02, 2025. The Switch launched just two months later on March 3. If Nintendo follows suit with the Switch 2, releasing it two months after a similar in-depth livestream (ie, the Direct), then we can expect to see it launch sometime in June, coinciding with the end of the hands-on tour.

Dr Serkan Toto, the CEO of Japan games industry consultant Kantan Games, said as much, telling GamesRadar that a Spring release is “not possible anymore”, and that “June sounds a lot more realistic”. So, the Switch 2 might be in our hands — or hooked up to our TVs — in just a few months.

Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 is the successor to Nintendo Switch, scheduled for release on July 20, 2025. Confirmed as backwards compatible, it will play both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.
