Summary
TheNintendo Switch 2is real, andit’s coming at some point this year. Still, even with that much information, including copious amounts of hardware leaks, it still remains to be seen what games will launch on theNintendo Switchsuccessor.
As it stands,we do know that there will be a new Mario Kart game. Additionally,Metroid Prime 4 has been confirmed for release later this year. But that’s pretty much it, at least untilNintendohostsits April 2 presentation.
That said, when the Switch 2 does launch and throughout its life cycle, gamers can expect support fromTake-Two, the publisher behindGrand Theft Auto,Borderlandsand more.
Take-Two Has Supported Nintendo In The Past
As part of its latest financial earningsreport, where Grand Theft Auto 6 was also confirmed for a Fall 2025 release, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive shared that the company “fully expects” to support the upcoming handheld hybrid console. “We’ve had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo,” Zelnick said. “We’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release.”
Indeed, the Switch has seen a number of Take-Two releases over the years, includingmultiple NBA 2KandWWE 2K titles, plusBorderlands, as well asCivilization, includingthe upcoming Civilization 7.
That said, the Switch has not seen a port of perhapsTake-Two’s biggest cash cow, Grand Theft Auto 5. The GTA Trilogy Definitive Editiondid release on Switch, so it likely has more to do with hardware limitations as opposed to limitations on the kind of content the Switch can host.
“There was a time when Nintendo platforms were geared at younger audiences, that was reflected in our release schedule,” Zelnick said, referencing Nintendo’s long-running history. “Today, with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience.”
Ultimately, only time will tell how far that support extends. There’s no doubt the annualized sports titles will be on the console. However, an increase in power does open the lane for some of Take-Two’s more prominent titles, namely GTA.
