Summary
Even though it’s been nearly two monthssince we got a first look at theNintendo Switch 2, andwe won’t hear about the console again for a little under a month, viasome filings we’ve been able to glean some more infoabout the upcomingNintendorelease.
In early February,we learned that the Joy-Cons can be used as a mouse, with patents dedicated to using the controllers as a traditional mouse, as well as some sort of hybridization involving mouse and Joy-Con. We’ve yet to see that in action, but a tease in the trailer and patent filings confirmed it was a feature.
Now,via a new round of FCC filings, it appears that when the Switch 2 does launch, you’ll be able to charge it from the bottom and top.As first spotted by The Verge, the filings indicate two USB-C ports on either side, meaning you won’t have to struggle with a cord underneath you while you game.
Amiibo Functionality Could Also Be Part Of The Hardware
Interestingly enough, the filing also confirms that the console will be able to interact with Amiibos and the NFC tags that are equipped with the collectibles. In other words, tapping Amiibos on the console itself to unlock in-game rewards isn’t going anywhere.
Other tidbits gathered from these filings include the presence of faster Wi-Fi capabilities. The new console will take advantage of Wi-Fi 6 functionality, though it won’t be Wi-Fi 6E. There also might be some faster charging capabilities due to the console being rated for 15V, with an AC adapter clocking in at 20V, per some diagrams.
Either way, it’s good to know that Amiibos aren’t likely to go anywhere. And above all else, the most annoying aspect of charging is no longer an issue.
