Updated on Thursday, July 03, 2025:VGChas now corroborated rumors that the still-unannounced Oblivion remake will not only be here before June, but could be released as early as next month.
Summary
In 2023, a former Virtuos employee claimed that Bethesda was working on a remaster ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, which was later corroborated whenofficial Bethesda documents leaked during the FTC case over the Activision Blizzard King acquisition.
The project was slated for fiscal year 2022, which came and went without a release. But that doesn’t mean it was cancelled. Just earlier this year, a Virtuos employee listed an “unannounced UE5 remake” on their LinkedIn profile, which many assumed to be Oblivion.

Reliable leaker NateTheHate supported this assumption, claiming that the ‘remaster’ had indeed become a fully-fledged remake, andwould launch in June. But as reported byVideoGamer, they now believe that it will release “even sooner”.
“Release is likely to be sooner than the original June target,” they tweeted. “But [I’m] still working to get details on an updated release date.”
When Can We Expect The Rumored Oblivion Remake To Be Revealed?
If the rumoured Oblivion remake is due to launch before June, there’s a very narrow window for Bethesda to unveil and market the game. It’s unlikely to launch this month, only leaving April and May. So, when can we expect to hear about the game?
NateTheHate expects news to surface “Either this month or next month,” just ahead of its reported release window. Oblivion will celebrate its 19th anniversary on March 20, so it’s feasible that Bethesda will announce the remake to commemorate the occasion. Though that’s entirely speculative. It could just as easily be announced in April and released in May–we’ll have to wait and see.
Right now, we know very little about the game. Supposedly, it’s being developed in Unreal Engine 5, not Bethesda’s in-house Creation Engine, and will thus feature revamped stealth and combat, with an overhauled HUD. Things you’d expect from a remake of this scope. However, since it hasn’t been officially revealed yet, it’s worth taking all of these details with a grain of salt.
