Avowedis one of those games that instantly overwhelms you with the sheer amount of mechanics present as soon as you step into it. Not only do you have to learn the general movement and parkour, but also get used to the world around you and the danger that you’ll find every step of the way.
As you progress through the game, you’ll visit many different biomes with their unique sceneries and meet plenty of people with varying personalities. If you want to survive in this harsh world, you’d want to keep these things in mind.
Pick Up Everything You Can
Whenever you set foot in an open world that extends as far as your eyes can see, the first rule is always to pick up everything you may find. As you go through an area, you’ll see a ton of icons popping up on the minimap toshow the enemies, corpses, plants, and other items that you can pickin the area.
It’s important to keep an eye on your minimap and go for these whenever you see them. Thankfully,only the weapons and armor have weightso you may have as many other items as you want in your inventory. Some of these plants might bestuck on walls with no way of getting them, and these are usually meant to clear your path or help you defeat some enemies.
Even if you get encumbered with too many armor and weapons,you can simply stash them in your campfrom your inventory.
Don’t Try To Rush Your Battles
No matter what you’re exploring during your time in the Living Lands, you won’t move around for long before encountering enemies on your path. Different types of enemies are scattered all across the map withGodless beings, spiders, and humanlike enemies being the major oneswhen you just start out.
Whenever you’re fighting a group of enemies, which will happen often, it’s important to not rush your battle. Brute forcing your fights byslashing at the enemies while taking all the damage isn’t a good idea. It might work during the early game, but you’ll have various issues getting past battles later on.
As you progress in the areas,you start getting higher-tier enemiesthat give you quite a hard time.
Instead of that, try to learn the enemy movement and how your companions call out to you. For example, once you recruit Kai to your party, you’ll commonly hear himtelling you exactly where the enemy is attacking from.
Listen In For The Chime
Soon after you enter the Living Lands after crashing your ship, you’ll commonly start hearing a chime nearby. This sound effect is an indication of some sort of treasure nearby. This couldbe a chest, lockbox, backpack, corpse, or a valuable item. The chime is directional, so you’re able to also tell exactly where it’s coming from.
However, even if you’re playing without headphones, it’s highly recommended to keep your ears open for this sound as it’ll help youget to the treasure and secret locations that you’d never get to otherwise.
Beware Of Traps
Apart from introducing various enemies, Avowed doesn’t shy away from throwing various traps at you constantly. This starts with trip wires in the Northreach Fort area, and if you step through these,you’ll find an arrow coming directly for your heart. While these don’t instantly kill you, they deal significant damage.
As you progress, the traps get more difficult as well. For example, you might come across constantly swinging swords orpressure plates that activate a flurry of arrows in the room. The game gives you a heads-up when there are traps nearby sometimes, but it also might not, especially when you’re doing side quests.
Don’t Waste Your Resources
Resource management is arguably one of the most important things you’ll have todo in Avowed if you’re playing on normal or hard difficulty. There are mainly two types of resources: food items or ingredients to make dishes and upgrade/enchantment items. The former is easy to get, but the same can’t be said for the latter.
Apart from constantly getting ingredients on your run,you can also buy them from vendors for a cheap price. However, getting upgrade items is not only more rare but also expensive. Here are the best ways to get upgrade items in the game:

Your Choices Have Lasting Impact
This might be one of the main reasons for you to play Avowed, but if you aren’t aware, the game you play isheavily impacted by the choices you make in your playthrough. This doesn’t only refer to the choices in the main story, but also various other options that you choose in side quests or even in random talks with NPCs.
For example, you get an option tosave or leave a stranger woman in the Northreach Fort. If you save her, she might help you during one of the quests in the future. Of course, the choices you make in the main story will have much bigger impacts and can even lead to different endings.
Focus On One Type Of Build
Other than the lack of resources provided by the game, Avowed also isn’t too generous when it comes to leveling up and spending your ability points. Every time you level up, you can spend one point in the attribute and ability section each. The former gives you a direct boostwhile the latter can unlock or upgrade various active and passive abilities.
Due to how slow you get these points, it’s important to focus on one type of build and not invest in anything. For example, if you’re going for an agility build, you’d want toinvest in Dexterity, Perception, and Resolve attributesalongside the skills in the Ranger section of the ability tree.
Check Out The Traders Regularly
As you’re going through the Living Lands, you’ll consistently come across cities and small settlements. Wherever you find civilization,you’ll likely find one or more traders willing to give you a ton of items. These traders are important in Avowed since you get many essential items from them like resources and lockpicks.
As you reach further areas, you can also find high-tier weapons on these traders. These weapons are quite expensive, but it’ll beeasier to buy them than go through the upgrade processsince you need three upgrades before you can increase the weapon’s tier.
You shouldbuy items like lockpicks as soon as you see themon the traders since you’ll run out of them quickly if you like exploring.
