Roaring into the fray, Cell Max towers over any foe who stands before him. Though minimalistic in terms of his kit, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know. From his combos, skills and special moves while also giving some useful tips to give you a better understanding of the character.

Ki Burst

Melee Button or Perception Button + Ki Button

Unleash a spherical pulse around Cell Max, pushing the opponent away.

Backhand

2x Melee Button or 2x Perception Button + Ki Button

Forces the enemy to spin around, making it much more difficult to defend against further melee attacks.

Gut Punch

3x Melee Button or 3x Perception Button + Ki Button

A quick attack that will stun the opponent for a short moment and prevent them from countering follow-up attacks.

Pressing theMelee Button will attack high, and thePerception Button will attack low. You can alternate between high and low attacks and still perform a combo move.

R2/RT + Up on the D-Pad

2 Skill Points

Creates a shockwave that interrupts the opponent’s melee attacks and knocks them away.

R2/RT + Left on the D-Pad

4 Skill Points

Instantly enters Sparking Mode after a short animation. Increase defense and all damage output for the entire duration.

3 Ki Gauges

Charges a powerful energy blast, dealing moderate damage to the opponent.

Throw’s a powerful strike attack, dealing moderate damage and knocking the opponent away.

Cell Max In Versus And Online Matches

Cell Maxcosts nine DPand is very focused ondealing high damage in bursts. As a giant character, he has the benefit of beingimmune to all grabsandmost Rush special moves, but with the downside ofbeing extremely slow. His main playstyle should be tokeep his Ki Gauges fullandprioritize using his Blast special movesfor damage.

Whilst Cell Max’s melee combo potential is near nonexistent against smaller opponents, they fare much better when used against other giant characters.

Explosive Wave costs two Skill Pointsandcreates a shockwave to interrupt an opponent’s melee attack combo. This is a very useful tool when struggling againstfast-moving smaller foes, though it’s best tosave your Skill Pointsfor your second skill if possible.

Howlwillinstantly put Cell Max into Sparking Modeafter a short animation. Additionally, all sources ofdamage output will increase, and he will alsoreceive a defense buff. While the animation is short,you can be interrupted if used from neutral, so be sure toknock your opponent awayusingathroworsmash attack.

Cell Max has access to bothBlastandMelee Special Movesin the forms of Max Cannon and Mighty Fist.Max Cannonconsumesthree Ki Gaugesto charge apowerful energy blastthatdeals moderate damageon impact. To effectively land Max Cannon, you’ll need tolaunch your opponentusing a throw or smash attack.

Mighty Fistthrows aclose-range punchthatdeals moderate damageandknocks the opponent away. You shouldavoid using this moveas thecost of four Ki Gaugesfor such meagre damage would be a waste. You can use it for style points, but ensure tostagger your opponentwith adown smash.

Against giant opponents, be sure to use one of thestaggering combomoves, such as Gut Punch or Backhand,before attempting a Special Move.

Max Bombcharges a very large and powerful energy ball thatdeals major damageon impact. Similarly to Cell Max' previous Special Moves, to effectively land the ultimate, you must stagger or launch the opponent to guarantee it. To furtherincrease the damage, make sure to enter Sparking Mode using theHowl skill.

Whilst all of Cell Max’s Special Moves can be blocked, they still deal pretty good damage even when blocked.
