FitGirl Repacks, a notorious game piracy contributor, who helps “repack” games that have been cracked onPC, includingthe likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which was cracked in two minutes, as well asFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which was cracked shortly after its launch on PC, recently began asking its users for donations in order to keep the site running.
Shortly after, game pirates began flocking in droves to donate whatever they could, including one cryptocurrency millionaire, who managed to donate a whopping $42,572.
Pirating Games Isn’t Free, You Know
In an initial post, the notorious repacker shared a reminder to their users that they routinely incur costs to run the website, as well as, well, repack games.
“Once in a while, this day comes. The day where I have to remind you that making repacks and running this site costs me money,” the post read in part.
The site is ad-free, and downloading repacks doesn’t cost users anything. “I’m not earning money off my hobby, but only attempt to cover expenses, and when some of you donate periodically – it’s all good,” the post added. Instead, if they could say “thanks” via cryptocurrency, it would be much appreciated.
And that’s exactly what happened.A cursory search through the Bitcoin walletshows donations ranging from a couple of bucks to more meaty contributions like $20 before the aforementioned donation in the sum of $42,572.
If you’re surprised by the turnout, then don’t be. Taking to Reddit, numerous pirates shared their intentions to help keep the site running by any means necessary. “They gave me a game library of the latest and greatest. I would be happy to help out,“one user wrote.
“If there is a time when a pirate has to spend money, it is this one,“another user chimed in. While we’ll never know the identity of the massive donator, it does go to show that pirates aren’t limited to “poor” gamers, but rather all sorts of users, even those with seemingly endless crypto dollars.
