Fishing is one of life’s great pastimes, so it’s only logical that fishing has become so common in video games. It’s one of the most ubiquitous minigames there is, and Monster Hunter is no stranger to it. It’s a more involved process inMonster Hunter Wilds, with the real challenge coming in finding these fish in the first plaice.

Kanya is your go-to girl for all your fishing needs. She is, well, rather obsessed with fish to a perhaps unhealthy degree. But she’s a great source of information, so you may as well catch a real whopper to impress her anyway. You’ll get some great bait too, and some delicious fish to cook up too.

How To Start The Catch Of A Lifetime Quest

This is thefourth fishing questin Kanya’s surprisingly long line of angling endeavors. As always, she is by the pond in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp, and you need to have finished all of her previous quests, such as ‘Seeking The Goldenfish’ and ‘Fishing For Flavour’. Afterwards, this quest will unlock.

You will need to progress a good length through the story before this quest is available, so just keep playing until it appears. After accepting it, Kanya will give you two new pieces of bait to help you out - theTuff Joint Bait, and the Duster Rig.

Best Areas To Find A Whopper

Unlike regular fish, which are typically spread out by region and interior or exterior, Big Fish are divided by specific bodies of water. That meanscertain Big Fish will only appear in specific streams and lakes, rather than spawning everywhere. Weather conditions have a big impact on them too, and the Plenty tends to be the easiest time to find them.

The Scarlet Forest has the most copious variety of fish, and the largest amount of Big Fish, so this is where we recommend going. Three of the most common fish you can find here are the following:

The Gastronome Tuna is one of the most common of these fish and the one we would recommend you try to land due to the relative ease of catching it as well, though you can aim for the rarer Speartuna if you want more of a challenge.

Another great area to search for fish isArea 17, where the final encounter with Uth Duna occurs. Speartuna are much more common here, and the wide area means it is always filled with fish.

Be careful when fighting a Big Fish tonot let them run into obstacles. This will dramatically increase the tension on the line, and the fish will escape.

An event that can occur in the Scarlet Forest specifically areFeeding Circles. These are random disturbances in the water where lots of fish and flying creatures congregate to feed, and Big Fish are teeming here. Just toss your line into the center andreel it in slowly every now and thenand you’ll have fish chomping on the line endlessly.

Best Bait To Use For Big Fish

Big Fish, which Kanya also affectionately calls Whoppers, work differently from regular fish. After you hook them, they actually need to be battledby following their direction until they tire out. At this point, you canreel them in until they start fighting back again. Rinse and repeat until they’re landed.

Of course, actually hooking them in the first place is a challenge too, and that’s where your new bait comes in. We had the most luck finding big fish in the Scarlet Forest, and theTuff Joint Baitworks best there. Using this bait makes it less likely (though not impossible) for other fish to be attracted.

If fishing in the Scarlet Forest, try to do so during the Plenty. Big Fish are more common then, and the clear water makes it much easier to see them.

Big Fish are rarer to bite in general, so you’ll need a lot more patience with them. They tend to be attracted more when youslowly reel in the line rather than flicking it. If the fish you have your eye on swims too far away, just recast the line closer to them. Big Fish are rarer in general, so try to wait around for a few minutes and they might appear.

Once they bit, all you have to do is reel them in.Kanya will be satisfied with any Big Fish you bring her, as long as you had to fight to get them.
