When you first arrive in Wyhndam Village inAtomfall, you’ll often stumble across chests you can’t open and keys you don’t know where to use. The Protocol Documents Chest is one you’ll definitely find, but the key is one of the hardest for you to get.
Like other keys you’ll need to get, there are multiple ways to get the Protocol Documents Key, but there is one way that’s better than the others. We will walk you through the best way to get the key so that you’re not ruining any options you have for later in the game.
Protocol Documents Chest Location
TheProtocol Documents Chest is in Wyndham Village’s Village Hall, hidden at the back of the room by the stage. In the village region, it’s at 33.4E, 79.3N.
You can head in whenever you want to meet Captain Sims. Head to the back of the room and the chest is to the left of a chest of drawers.
Best Way To Get The Protocol Documents Chest Key
If you want to get the key quickly,you can kill Captain Sims and loot the key from his body. You’ll quickly be attacked by the other Protocol guards in the Village Hall, so make sure you’re well-armed.
Killing Sims to get the key will lock you out of an ending that involves him, as well as some other story content, so it’s probably not worthwhile.
Instead, you canget the key from the Protocol Outpost at 34.9 E, 80.8 Nin the village. Do not, whatever you do, try and get in through the front gate. You’ll be attacked on sight by lots of guards.
If youhead around to the back of the outpost, you’ll see the shedin the screenshot above. you’re able to climb up the crates inside it and drop inside.
Then, start tocrawl under the door and keep an eye on the two guardswandering around there. At points, they’ll cross over and walk in opposite directions, away from a ladder that’s right in front of you and goes up the tower. As they begin to walk away,quietly head to the ladder and begin climbing.
There’s a high chance that the guards down low see you, as well as the guard on the tower itself. Justignore them and get to the chestat the top as quickly as you can.
Then,open the chest and grab the Protocol Documents Chest key from inside. Now, you need to run away if you’re being attacked. Head down the hill towards the beach at the edge of the village. You shouldn’t be chased and will be able to escape quite easily.

If you’re early on in the game, the SMG will be very useful, so equip it as soon as you’re able to. The notes also give some great background info on Sims and what he’s doing in the village.
