There are seven different classes inHeroes of Hammerwatch 2, each with its own playstyle, build options, and customization. Four are unlocked at the start of the game, the Warrior, Wizard, Paladin, and Ranger, while three will need to be unlocked during gameplay: the Rogue, Warlock, and Sorcerer.

Because of the Guild Title system that provides permanent stat bonuses to all your characters based on their level, it definitely pays to level at least one of every class. However, if you’re deciding on which to play as your main, you’ve come to the right place. Below, we’ll take a look at each of the seven classes in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2, their starting skills, Mastery options, and their general play style.

Starting Skills

Whirling Axes

Throw two axes that deal physical damage to enemies in their path.

War Cry

Grant yourself and all allies in the area a buff that increases Weapon Speed and Movement Speed for the duration.

Increases Health and Poison Resistance.

Killing Spree

Gain stacks of Killing Spree as you kill enemies. Each stack increases damage, but all are lost when the duration expires.

The Warrior is amelee-focused brawlerwithhigh health and physical damage. They perform well with a variety of strength-based weapons thanks to their proficiency in the stat, so the Warrior overall supports avariety of different playstyles. If you prefer getting up close, smacking enemies with different weapons, and absorbing damage, the Warrior is for you.

The Warrior’s three Class Masteries are Berserker, Primalist, and Tyrant.

Berserker

Leap

Jump towards the target area, dealing Physical damage and Stunning enemies where you land.

Rage

Taking damage grants Rage, increasing Crit Chance and Crit Damage with Physical skills.

Primalist

Ancient Totems

Place a totem that deals continuous Physical damage in the area.

Tremor Strikes

Melee Weapon attacks cause tremors around you that deal Physical damage in the area.

Tyrant

Chains

Throw out several chains around you that deal Physical damage and inflict Cripple.

Ruthlessness

Deal increased Physical damage and your Physical damage skills have a chance to inflict Bleeding.

Increases Mana and Intelligence

Barrier

Generate a stack of Barrier over time. Each stack reduces the damage of the next attack you take.

The Wizard is a ranged spellcaster that has severalelemental attacks, and adecent amount of survivabilitythanks to Barrier generation. They can specialize in Fire, Lightning, or Ice damage thanks tostaves and wandsof the same type, offering build variety. Choose the Wizard if you want to play as along-range spellcasterwith a bit of damage reduction.

The Wizard’s Class Mastery options are Conjuration, Transmutation, and Evocation.

Conjuration

Conjure Hydra

Summon hydras that shoot fire at nearby enemies, dealing Fire damage.

Animated Sword

You gain a magical sword that follows you around, slashing at nearby enemies for Physical damage.

Transmutation

Haste

Grants a temporary buff that increases Weapon Cast Speed and Movement Speed.

Increases Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence per character level.

Evocation

Meteor Shower

Summon several meteors that deal Physical and Fire damage in the area.

Incanter’s Cadence

Casting a Spell grants a stack of Incanter’s Cadence. Each stack increases Cast Speed and reduces Mana Cost.

Heal yourself and your allies in the area.

Increases Armor and Block Chance.

Conviction

Melee Weapon hits have a chance to restore Mana.

The Paladin is amelee fighter with high defenses. Their skillLay on Handscanheal themself and allies in the area, making them theonly class with a dedicated AoE heal. Because of this, the Paladin is agreat starter character, as they can survive for much longer, whether solo or in multiplayer.

If you want to play the class with thehighest survivabilityand adecent amount of damage, the Paladin is your best option.

The Paladin’s Class Masteries are Divine, Justice, and Radiance.

Divine

Divine Pillars

Summon pillars of light that deal Physical damage and inflict Blindness.

Divine Protection

Taking damage while below half health has a low chance of granting you Invulnerability.

Justice

Judgement

Strike enemies with a hammer, dealing Physical damage, at random intervals for the duration of the Spell.

Lawbringer

Blocking or taking damage has a chance to inflict Disarm and Silence to the attacker.

Radiance

Immolation

Charge up an explosion while holding the skill button that explodes when you let go, dealing Fire damage in the area.

Inner Flames

Casting Spells grants stacks of Inner Flames. Stacks of Inner Flames grant you an aura that deals Fire damage around you.

Marked Shot

Shoot an arrow that deals Physical damage in the area and Marks enemies. Your attacks deal more damage to Marked enemies.

Trap

Deploy a trap that damages and Cripples enemies that step on it. Crippled enemies move 65% slower.

Rhythm

Increases Weapon Crit Chance, and Weapon Crits grant a stack of Rhythm. Each stack of Rhythm increases your Weapon Crit Chance and Weapon Crit Damage.

Survivalist

When you take damage, you gain a buff that reduces damage taken.

As its name implies, the Ranger is aranged specialistthat fights from afar. With their Trap, the Ranger is anexpert at kiting enemies, staying far enough away to avoid damage while dishing out their own. The Ranger is perfect for players who prefer amobile class that can fight from long distances.

The Ranger’s three Class Masteries are Beastmaster, Warden, and Marksman.

Beastmaster

Spirit Wolves

Send out spirit wolves that seek nearby enemies, dealing Physical and Ice damage.

Wolf Companion

Passively summon a wolf companion that attacks nearby enemies, dealing Physical damage.

Warden

Entangle

Conjure roots that linger in the area, dealing Physical damage and Crippling enemies.

Wind Weaver

Weapon hits send out a blast of wind that travels forward a short distance, dealing Physical damage.

Marksman

Rain of Arrows

Shoot waves of arrows that rain down in the area, dealing Physical damage.

Archery

Reduces the movement penalty when moving when firing Bow skills, and increases damage with Bow skills.

Attack enemies in the area around you.

Slice and Dice

Hits with your attacks grant stacks of Slice and Dice. Each stack increases your Weapon Speed, but all are lost when the duration expires.

Sidestep

Grants Evasion and a charge of guaranteed Evasion every few seconds.

The Rogue is aslippery melee fighterthat candash in and out of combat, striking with high-damage attacks, orthrowing out knives from mid-rangeto deal with enemies of all types. The Rogue is afast-paced attackerthat can chase down enemies, butrelies on Evasion for their survivability. If you’re a fan of risky, melee gameplay, the Rogue will be a perfect fit.

The Rogue’s Class Masteries are Poison, Demolitions, and Blades.

Poison

Toxic Cloud

Create a poison cloud that deals Poison damage and Blinds enemies in the area.

Poison Mastery

Deal increased Poison damage and Poison skills have a chance to inflict Vulnerability.

Demolitions

Grenade

Throw a grenade that explodes after a moment, dealing Physical damage.

Artificer Suit

Increases Armor and Physical damage. Taking damage releases a flashbang that inflicts Blindness on nearby enemies.

Blades

Mortal Strike

Deal a massive amount of Physical damage in a small area.

Increases Weapon Crit Damage and reduces enemy detection range.

Deal Physical damage in a line that inflicts Slow.

Dark Ritual

Channels a ritual that continuously deals Physical damage to enemies in the area, followed by an additional hit of damage when the ritual completes. The ritual will end if you leave the area before it is completed.

Drain Essence

Hitting enemies with Melee attacks grants stacks of Essence. Each stack of Essence increases your max Health and Mana.

Aura of Atrophy

You take less damage from enemies near you.

The Warlock is ahybrid between spellcaster and melee fighter. With Drain Essence, the Warlock hasdecent sustain during a fight, and Aura of Atrophy gives them agood bonus to survivability. Their two offensive attacks are also great forclearing large groups of enemiesor lone Elite enemies, making the Warlock very versatile.

The Warlock’s Class Mastery options are Summoning, Souls, and Chaos.

Summoning

Summon Fiends

Channel the spell to summon fiends, consuming stacks of Essence in the process. Fiends attack nearby enemies, dealing Physical damage.

Gargoyle Servant

Passively summon a Gargoyle servant that attacks enemies, dealing Physical damage.

Souls

Soul Vortex

Conjure an area of swirling souls that deals Physical and Poison damage in the area.

Soul Shaper

While you have stacks of Essence, your main weapon attack fires a soul projectile at a random nearby enemy.

Conjure a blade that deals Physical and Lightning damage.

Chaos Rifts

Casting a Spell spawns a rift that deals Physical and Lightning damage to enemies in the area. Rifts that are near each other will send out streams of energy, dealing additional damage.

Discharge

Strike with a cone of lightning. Each enemy can only be hit by one lightning tendril.

Elemental Orb

Fire a slow-moving orb that continuously deals Fire, Lightning, and Ice damage in the area.

Increases Spell Crit Chance.

Elemental Affinity

Casting a Spell grants Elemental Affinity of the same elemental type as the Spell, increasing your damage with that element. Only one type of Elemental Affinity can be active at a time.

The Sorcerer is very similar to the Wizard, but is even more of aglass cannon. Withno defensive passivesor skills, the Sorcerer relies entirely onkilling enemies before they kill you. The Sorcerer offers ahigh-risk, high-reward playstylethat is perfectly suited to players who want to blow up enemies with the highest damage possible.

The Sorcerer’s Class Masteries are Lightning, Fire, and Ice.

Lightning

Lightning Ball

Charge up and send forth a ball of lightning that deals damage in the area. Its damage scales with how long you spend charging the spell.

Lightning Mastery

Deal increased Lightning Damage and Lightning skills have a chance to inflict Stun.

Fire

Flame Wall

Conjure a wall of fire that deals Fire damage to nearby enemies.

Fire Mastery

Deal increased Fire damage and Fire skills have a chance to inflict Weakness.

Ice

Frost Nova

Send out a wave of ice shards that deal Ice damage in the area.

Ice Mastery

Deal increased Ice damage and Ice skills have a chance to inflict Freeze.
